[strike]Yep, Ruger Mini-14[/strike] (Ooops, no, Ruger AC556 select fire: zoom in on the back of the receiver) with the "old style" front sight (the stock appears to have been modified to mount the sling in the manner of the M1 carbine).

that certainly does look like a ruger mini rifle. i have never seen that type stock on one tho.the stock looks checkered on the grip and forearm and longer than a stock one. the butt plate looks straight and padded instead of curved with a thin plastic butt plate. not to mention the slot in the butt.i would buy that stock if i could find one.

the diff between the mini 30 and mini 14 is just the caliber as far as i know.

any idea where that photo came from? as in what country?

I think it is interesting that a French Special police unit CRS (Compagnies Républicaines de Sécurité ) uses American Ruger guns given the choices of technology that they have. I wonder if it is an individual's choice ?

AC-556 indeed. Its hard to tell because its partially obscured, but is that a factory 20 or 30 rounder/

I was in two airports in France last month. Tavors and MP5's are what the security/police/guard (?) was carrying.

They may be aux police (volunteers) helping out for a praide using their own weapons.

Just a thought
Jim

If the Mini 14 is patterned after the M-14 why is it as accurate as one ? I keep hearing that about Ruger rifles in general. Are they the type of product that you have to mod after you get it for fit, finish and performance ?
