What mags for colt 1911

I just bought a used colt officers 1911 and it only came with one 7 round mag. What manufacter do you recommend? I was thinking Wilson but, not sure since this is my first 1911 style gun.

Wilson Mags have worked perfectly for me in my Kimber.

I've really liked the nylon followers in the Wilson Mags. I've got a ton of different manufacturers mags but I find myself reaching for the Wilson mags first.

Once again I vote for Checkmate mags, with the dimpled follower and "hybride" feed lips. Very close to what JMB came up with.

I don't have any experience with Officers models but I am very happy with Metalform mags. I don't care for extended pads on carry guns which seem to be so commonly recommended. I think it is okay to have a pad on a reload mag if you carry one, but I am not big on the extra length created by some of the mags with removable floorplates that incorporate a permanent pad.

My $.02 for $.02 less.

My SW1911 came with 2 Wilson Combat mags with the extended bumper on the bottom...they "look" like crap sticking out of the bottom of a stainless gun but they do serve a purpose when ejecting and to keep from bumping the bottom of the gun on anything. Since I wanted some flush mags, I bought Kimber's Kim-Pro Tac Mags that hold 8 rounds, fit flush in the recess at the bottom of the gun frame, and they come with 2 different rubber bumpers(.25 and .50 inch) that you can attach to the bottom plate if you want bumpers...the best of both worlds. I'm sure there were others that were cheaper, but theses were only $28ea. I believe.

I agree with 10-Ring. Get some Wilson mags.

Blkbrd, Wilson makes mags with different size bumper pads. You want thick they'll give you thick. You want flush they'll sell you flush. And they are better quality than Kimber mags (I own 3 Kimbers).

Yeah, if you take them apart, the Wilsons seem to be better quality than any mag in any pistol I own...and definitely the easiest to disassemble and clean. The Kimbers are finished better on the outside...can't find the weld on them whereas you can on the Wilsons. I like the staggered round count holes in the Kimbers too.

All the Wilsons at the shop when I needed mags had the same bumpers and only came with the one...the Kimbers came with the attachable bumpers included...mainly the reason I wound up with them.

I think Mr. Tuner recommends Checkmate mags and of course, USGI mags. Otherwise, heard good things about Tripp mags (especially their follower) and McCormick's.

Tuner will likely take me to task for it, but I like Wilson Combat 47CB magazines. Other magazines I have had good success with are Chip McCormick Shooting Stars and the GI magazines that Tuner recommends. The original Colt magazines are usually reliable as well.

I shoot dark guns so I like to use blued magazines for aesthetic purposes. I've found Chip McCormick Shooting Stars to provide excellent performance. They're reliable and a great value.

I've only used Wilson mags, either the 47D or the new ETM. Haven't had any reason to try any others.

With all the different guns and magazine designs out there, it may take a bit of experimentation to find which works with which. Wilson #47 variants seem to be very consistent. I don't care for the protrusion of the standard baseplates for carry.

Otherwise, heard good things about Tripp mags (especially their follower) and McCormick's.

I purchased 3 Tripp mags for my Delta Elite. The caliber stamping into the magazine body on three of the mags bent the body in far enough that they can't be loaded to capacity. The third can be loaded to capacity, but only with great difficulty. And the extreme upward force of the spring noticeably slows down slide velocity.

While I like the concept of the Tripp design, the implementation is terribly lacking. Stay away from Tripp magazines. Get a Wilson 47D or their new ETM instead.

What I use.

Others have given good manufacture mags, I'll add my two cents. Chip McCormick mags run well in my guns, as do Metalform and Colt. I haven't personally used the Checkmate mags, but they should be fine as they are a Colt supplier (if ordered through Brownells, factory parts section, I believe).

I have a Wilson mag, and if I were using my 1911 for carry, I'd be more than happy to get it some brothers.

Excellent mags - well worth the price.

Have had no problems with Colt factory and Mecgar---have McCormick power mags that aren't all that good.
