A buddy of mine asked me to teach him my ways and wants to load a 1,000 9mm with me. I was obviously not prepared for such a request and have been searching high and low for powder and primers. I finally located Federal Small Pistol primers locally, but still cannot find powder.

Your safe, I found some RL-15. I had one pound of IMR-4895, one pound of Varget, and one pound of RL-15. I could have lived with any of them, but I like the RL-15, and I found that first.

I was going to buy some IMR4895 and RL-15 in a larger size, and when I checked PV around January sometime IIRC, they had most everything, but I decided to wait a month to go easy on the monthly Visa bill, and then poof, it all disappeared. Gone.

$0.26 bullet+$0.11 powder+$0.04 primer=$0.41 per round if you have "free" brass. About $8.20 for 20 rounds going by these prices. I remember buying factory .223/5.56 cheaper than that. I guess it's not too bad seeing as you can't hardly find a 1k round case of 5.56 for less than $600 these days.
