Which is the most popular pistol- or the dream pistol for that matter?

Dear THR:
Which in your opinion is the most popular pistol to date? The one that you like to have the most. The one that you dream to have or do have it fortunately.

For me it was always the automatic pistols. Until I owned most of them and then some race guns. Now, however, I seem to be clueless because I have had the most pistols I ever wanted. It is horrifying to think that this is end of the line.

I do believe the most popular pistol to date is Glock 18. Hollywood may have contributed to its popularity not mention the AWB, which made it out of reach of the many.

What do you guys have to say?

Interesting way you phrased the question. To me popular means a best seller or what most own. A Honda Civic is a really popular car but a Nissan GT-R is what I would really like to be able to drive most of the time.

As far as pistols I would have to say for me the SIG P226. If I had to leave for parts unkown with only one pistol it would be a SIG P226.

Not sure if that answers your question but that is my 2 cents.

What do you base this on? I am pretty sure 99% of the population would not know the difference between a G18, G17, G22, G30, etc. etc. etc.

If we use Movies as an indicator of popularity... () = # movies that it makes an appearance.

Thats good because Ruger outsells every manufacture in the semi-auto pistol market... and I cannot think of one that I would want.




As for the pistol I want the most?? Engraved Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless w/ivory grips...

My dream pistol always seems to be the last one I bought. Other than that I guess it would be a working model of Han Solo's modified Broomhandle Mauser.

As to the most popular pistol, I'm going with a .22 rimfire. But then my definition of "most popular" is likely different from yours.

Well if I dream of having a certain pistol it may not be the most popular to others. My own personal Dream Gun would be a Beretta Model 93R. My own popular pistol would be something in an M1911, preferably a Colt.

I really don't know much about these but my dream pistol would be a all matching German luger in as close to 100% condition as possible. its the most beautiful pistol ever made.

Well, what I want and what's popular might be 2 completely different things. What's popular is based on general opinion, not personal opinion, and I'd have to say 1911 or Glock for that.

As to what I want? I want FN to sell the FNS without a manual safety to civilians.

G18 based on their appearnce not by sheer number if times but by the lasting impact it creates because it full auto and not everyone can have it. Thats all. I thought you would know that this is subjective thread with opinions. Enjoy.

Most popular semi-auto to me is a 1911....and for my money, I have some of the finest made by Wilson Combat...some of the best guns in my safe.

Since you put this thread in semi-autos ...I'll leave it at that..../ but if it was in general handguns....I'd go with a S&W mod 27 revolver, maybe a Freedom Arms single action revolver...in those other categories...
