No. He wishes very badly that this hadn't come up right now. He is in the process of reinventing himself as a moderate voice of reason, and the last thing he wants to do right now is confirm accusations made during his campaign that he was a gun-grabber. He knows that every time politicians back new gun laws, they get it in the teeth in the following election. They are even more vulnerable in 2012 than in the Nov election where they just got hammered.
If he WINS in 2012, however, it might be a different situation entirely. But this most recent shooting, even though there is a congresswoman involved, does nothing to raise the perception of guns in general, it isn't nearly as bad as other events from the last several years.
Having said that, read my sig line. The only reason he/they won't is because they are afraid of us. We need to keep it that way.
