Will Obama Push Gun Control?

No. He wishes very badly that this hadn't come up right now. He is in the process of reinventing himself as a moderate voice of reason, and the last thing he wants to do right now is confirm accusations made during his campaign that he was a gun-grabber. He knows that every time politicians back new gun laws, they get it in the teeth in the following election. They are even more vulnerable in 2012 than in the Nov election where they just got hammered.

If he WINS in 2012, however, it might be a different situation entirely. But this most recent shooting, even though there is a congresswoman involved, does nothing to raise the perception of guns in general, it isn't nearly as bad as other events from the last several years.

Having said that, read my sig line. The only reason he/they won't is because they are afraid of us. We need to keep it that way.

I'm of the opinion that Obama has learned a few things, and honestly wants what he believes is best for every person in America, and because of the former, will not push for any further gun control. Or at least be quiet on his thoughts on the matter, for right now.

If he gets reelected, I'm betting he will 1) see what Americans want and not push gun control--but likely pass anything that makes it through Senate, which to him would constitute 'the will of America'--or 2) see it as his chance and indulge every ban he can shove through. I'm guessing a 30/70 chance.

Just because he learned a bit, doesn't mean he's not a politician.

He is a smart man & KNOWS it will be political / re-election suicide if he does.

Asking THR what the president is thinking on a given topic is frankly silly, since (AFAIK) none of us are in his most inner circle of confidants. In essense, the OP is asking for rank speculation and group navel gazing, neither of which are terribly productive endeavors
