COMPNOR says,

Not to put a downer on this thread, but as I'm a "fence sitter" who can apply but at the moment doesn't intend to...

But COMPNOR might someday have a reason so get off the fence and join us --- by then it might be too late to go through the process.

My wife and I got our CCWs "just in case." We did not even do any serious gun shopping before she was assaulted. Now we carry when and where legal.

COMPNOR, I wish you well. I hope you never have a need.

I am a firm believer in concealed carry, and I carry whenever and wherever I can. That said, I don't believe you should try to convince "fence-sitters" to get their CHL. Learning to shoot a handgun proficiently, and carry competently, is a commitment that many people would not be willing to make. If someone does it having been convinced, they may not make the necessary commitment. I would be very willing to explain to someone why I carry, but I would be reluctant to tell them that they should carry. It's kinda like telling someone that they should have a child.

Packing gives me a piece of mind like no other.
Sad, you are so scared to leave your house without carrying, if you are that worried then move to a compound, collect hundreds of firearms to use against any seen or unseen danger.
When I was a boy I carried a knife everywhere I could. It gave me a perception of being able to fight off those that might seek to harm me. I knew I could slash and stab my aggressors so that I might cut and run.
Seriously, where did you grow up, South Central?
Leave your gun in the car. You will most likely find that when you need it you will have left if behind. And I promise not to help you since you have made the choice not help your fellow man by disarming at the door
So, if I am in trouble you are going to ask me, before you help, 1: Do you have a firearm? 2: Did you leave it in your vehicle? Oh, you did, I am sorry, I can't help you.
If I come across someone who is getting a beat down or is in danger, my first reaction is not to question politics but to help that person. After all, the person you help might be an anti gunner who can get a new outlook on life, but I guess that is beyond you.

I don't know about anyone else, but I like to live my life. I actually go out doors and do things like play basketball, baseball, cliff diving, mountain biking, football. If ANYONE can tell me what to do with my pistol when I go and play a pickup game I would do it, because I have 3 choices,
wear it, at least no one will steal the ball from me
take it off and put it in my bag, oh, that will be safe :barf:
leave it in my car, but if I did that and I got into trouble then hopelessjoe would have to quiz me before he helped. Oh, and it might get stolen.

I live in a city where we do lots of out doors things, shorts and tee shirt fun. I apologize to anyone who believes I should live in fear and not be able to play basketball.

Gee, I thought the OP asked why one should get a CCW or whatever it is called where you come from. Not some other question.

I LIKE my carry gun. If I did not, I wouldn't carry it. For some reason I just can't work up enough fearfulness, not even in Detroit, for me to feel that I "need it" or I "have to have it."

I don't "need" my multi-tool either, but it is comforting to know that it is available.

Now, i admit that I carry a cell phone for emergencies only and not at all for socializing. In the dark recesses of my own head, I do mock those that carry a cell phone because they think they "need it to stay connected with their friends." Perhaps someone should blast me for my condescending attitude about that.

Nobody said you have to live in fear. I don't. I carry because I can, but there are nut jobs out there. Stuff happens anytime, anywhere. I am prepared, but not scared. While life has no meaning to those who prey on others, it does to me. I have things to live for.

I wear shorts & t-shirts and still carry. OK, so I don't play basketball, but then I'm only 5"8" and can't hit the basket.

I carry

Funny thing about basket ball... some of the top team players live close to me, great guys... TALL guys.

Some of their friends sometimes have warrants out on them, it's hard to tell old friends not to drop by, maybe a basket ball court is not a place not to carry, yes!

Original question, original answer, I don't carry vehicle insurance because I WANT to get in a crash! Ditto on the Glock 19 and the one extra mag; plus a renewal CCW with 5 years to go, the insurance is good for 6 month's at a time , what a deal for CCW.

You should get a CHL because...
Fattens your wallet & makes you look flush.

Makes you practice your handwriting as you write another check.

Allows you to rub elbows with throngs of people from other countries at the DMV.

Never turn down an opportunity to have your picture taken.

Allows you to reassure yourself that your juvenile record really didn't follow you.

Gives the sheriff dept a number to reach you at during FOP fund raisers.

Provides your community the chance to see your name in print when the local rag discloses your private info.

You have another card to bend up when you lock yourself outta the house.

Your fingerprints are unique and you are rightfully proud to share them with the law enforcement world.

Reminds you to wear gloves during your other job as a burglar.

Looks cool when cutting up cocaine.

Allows you to walk a tightrope daily to keep from losing it.

New clothes!

Gets your creative juices flowing when faced with swim wear.

Gives an adrenaline burst to TSA agents when used as I.D. at security checkpoints.

And the #1 reason is that it gives you something to hand the officer who just asked you if you have a pistol in your pants and you AREN'T carrying! :D

You're right. It doesn't. Of course, since when do I need a CHL to carry in my own home?

You never need a CHL to carry in your own home... my point was, that violent crime happens in public all the time, it is not just confined to your home.
