beretta model 84
 

Does anyone have thoughts or experiance with handgun. I thought it might be a decent backup gun

I'm looking to get a Model 84 Cheetah as a gun for my wife and/our when I need something small. A friend of mine has one and I've done a few range sessions with it. Light, slim, accurate, reliable. Its the single stack version and therefore very concealable. I'm very impressed with it and I like the DA/SA, not a big fan of Kahrs and the like.

The only M-84 that I'm familiar with is the one that's a near-twin to the
Browning BDA. The 2 Beretta 84s that I've owned...and its single-stack cousin, the M-85...were super little pistols. I like'em better than the Browning because of the frame-mounted safety and the rowel hammer is prettier IMO.

The guns were dead reliable with anything that I could throw at'em, and more accurate than they need to be for the niche that they fill. If I were going to carry a .380 caliber pistol...this would be my hands-down pick. The 81 would probably get the nod for summer carry due to the slimmer grip, but the 84 isn't that much thicker.

Tuner. My mistake, I meant the Model 85, signle stack .380, which I think is called the Cheetah. Sweet little performer.

I've got the Browning BDA in Nickle plating finish, cool little pistol and feels great in the hand. I imagine the slimmer grip of the single stack Beretta would be great for carry! It could use better sights for sure! I can't hit the broad side of a barn with it if the barns more than 15-20 yards away. Mine doesn't like hollow points much though, has trouble feeding the Hornady's in particular. The BDA is a decocker too. Don't know if this helps you any or not?

Pilot...Now that ya mention it, I remember that the M-85 was the single stack version of the 84. I haven't kept up with Beretta's offerings in years. Have they changed the 85 to the Cheetah?

Cheetahs, Bobcats, Lynxes and Minxes...Too dang many cats in the Beretta line. :scrutiny:

Lordy how time does fly! I checked my records, and it's been 18 years since I sold off that last Beretta. :rolleyes:

I have the Model 87 - the .22LR version. GREAT gun! Well made, accurate and pretty much digests any sort of .22 ammo.

Almost stepped up and got the Model 85 as a companion I was so impressed. But, as fate would have it, saw a Bersa Thunder .380 at my favorite gunshop for $ 219 - maybe 40% of the Beretta's price :D

Never regretted my choice. For the price, the Bersa is all the .380 you could ever want.

I've got an 86, and the BDA.

The 86 is a single stack version with a tip up barrel. Good gun.

The BDA is o.k. too, but the trigger isn't as good. It is a little rough, even in single action mode.

I've been meaning to get the 84. They seem real nice. I like the extra capacity they offer. My 86 holds 8 in the mag. I like the safety on the frame.

The 84 is a good little 380. I have one. It is the "f" series so it looks like a little beretta 92 or m9. Reliable is an understatement. 100%. 13 round mags are easy to come by. Very simple to clean and break down. Hammer drop safety. Good double action pull. Reasonable single action trigger pull.

I never felt out-gunned carrying one. 14 rnds of 380 out of a gun you can shoot accurately is a lot of firepower.

Tuner. No worries. I can't keep them straight either. All I know is my wife wants one, so guess "we'll" have to get it. BTW, she hates my 1911's and even thinks the Maks are too heavy, so the Beretta it is!

that is all good to hear. i am going to get an 84 for my wife also. i thought that it was the 84fs cheetah? nice looking gun and with tunners nod that seals it. not very often my wife wants a gun. her 642 is just too hard for her to shoot accuratly at medium distance.
