Help elect Tom McClintock as Lt. Governor!

Senator McClintock is definitely one of the "good guys". Non-Californians can help, too... helping McClintock now will help him in his bid for Governor in 2010 against Mayor Antonio VillaReconquista, who is sure to help advance the causes of Socialism and illegal aliens... and that spills out from California to the rest of the nation.

Dear E-Team,

Today we found out that the union bosses have bought $1.1 million in radio advertising for John Garamendi to try to defeat me.

We knew they had decided that they can't save Phil Angelides in the Governor's race, where he is losing to Governor Schwarzenegger by a good margin. But we didn't know exactly how much they were going to pour in against me until today. And the $1.1 million could be just the start of their campaign against me.

The good news for us is that we are only 18 days away from the election and I am moving up in the polls. This may well make their last minute money blitz too little, too late. But we have to take this as a big concern.

That's why I am asking all our eteam members to please help with your most generous contribution possible at HelpTom.com. These next 8 to 10 days are our last chance to buy radio or television time before the election, and we need about $150,000 right now.

Anything you can do to help is needed. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Tom McClintock

I voted for him in the recall after voting no on the recall itself. He was the only one that actually answered any questions during the debates. Needless to say, I am still dumbfounded that Arnold beat him. I guess stardom is more important than content.

Isn't that the truth

Unfortunately, in California, that's what matters... name recognition with the unwashed masses. Far too many voters have no idea what they're voting on. They don't understand any of the issues. They vote on what was the last brightly-colored sign they saw, the last attack commercial they heard, or the name they recognize or "feel comfortable" with. That's why Jerry Brown is going to be our next AG barring a miracle... millions won't vote for Poochigian because of his name.

Scary, huh?

Unfortunately, Tom made hay about being "the only pro-life candidate." I appreciate his integrity, but frankly the Governor of California has little power over abortion. Neither does Congress. It was a Supreme Court decision.

Therefore, it was about as relevant to the election as what color Labrador is his favorite. Lots of people don't know that, though, and many California Republicans are more libertarian-leaning or "socially liberal", so "pro-life" carries some baggage with it, even among those who aren't pro-abortion absolutists.

He's someone that Libertarians here work with a lot on things. He's definitely one of the good guys.

I'm glad I have a chance to vote for him again.

It would be great to have Tom as Lt. Gov. and Pooch as the AG. Things might start to look up here in the PRK.

Old Moonbeam is just sliding from one office to another, again! Hopefully this time around he'll lose.

I am dumbfounded that Sean Hannity and the national GOP turned their collective backs on him in favor of Arnold.

Fame over principle......and gee.....does anybody wonder why the GOP is in the shape it is?????

Tom McClintock could not win as Gov, esp in that field.

Arnie had significant cross-party carryover, and got a lot of swing/undecideds, etc. I looked at the numbers: if Arnold were not in the field and the recall election had still gone on, there's a good chance Cruz Bustamente would be governor - a very scary thing, even worse than Grey Davis!

[Tom McC does indeed have a chance at Lt Gov against the tainted Garamendi, and given that current Lt Gov Cruz Bustamente is just lame.]

Tom McC has repeatedly made the mistake of being antiabortion and announcing it, even though it is not really relevant to his propsective duties as Gov (this during the recall election). This stance just won't fly in Calif general elections.

'Prochoice' ranks in the top 2-3 items of concern for swing voters and centrists and even quite a few CA republicans. Even though the gov has little to do with this issue, it's gonna turn these voters away, and these are the voters that determine how the election results...

The other issue is that "antichoice" is tied up in religious rhetoric, and there's probably a good chance that some folks don't care about the choice issue per se, but see this as a way for Bible Thumpers to further degrade the school system and introduce B.S. creationism/'intelligent design' into school curricula - and these folks see biotech industry run away screaming from CA as a result. CA schools are idiotic enough from the left, we don't need the loony right compounding the damage.

By contrast, 'guns' are a far more limited concern and rank 7th to 11th (varies with survey, year, phase of moon, etc.) on this list of concerns for such voters.

Thus, Tom McC would be significantly more likely to win a general CA election waving 5 live, firing AK47s, with 10 'saturday night specials' in his belt and holding a dead baby, than he ever would if he maintained his 'pro life' stance *and* joined the Brady Bunch.

'Pro-gun' in CA politics is simply irrelevant if you can't get elected in statewide office. (Sure, you can get some safe seat as an assemblyman or state senator from the southland, that's great - but that's a regional, not statewide, thing.)

The California 'Christian right' manages to get candidates to win primaries but these candidates, because of 'pro-life'/'anti-choice' stance, are simply unelecteable in a statewide general election. Thus, the Calif 'Christian right' must de facto be regarded as antigun.

I like Tom, but he's gonna have to STFU about abortion to ever have a chance at a nontrivial state office (Gov, AG, Treasurer, Sec. State). Lt Gov could be important, but it's actually a lower-ranked state office that's often used as a 'holding position' by termed-out legilslators.

Because he would lose? I think the Republicans consider Feinstein's seat to be cemented. She is up for re-election this term and I havent seen one ad for or against her on TV. She knows she's a shoe-in as the guy running against her has zero chance.

Tom is already a State Senator http://republican.sen.ca.gov/web/mcclintock/ this would just be a stepping stone for him to become the Governor.

FWIW, someone on the SDShooting group donated $500 each to McClintock and Poochigian.

I've just been able to do $50 each. I'm not a wealthy guy

i gave a few hundred bucks for McClintock for state senate, but I would REALLY love for him to beat Feinswine and take her seat. We could REALLY use him in the US Senate. I can't give anything now, I have no money.

Hell, tell all Republicans, except maybe those deep in the Bible Belt, to shut up about those topics.

Less government, not more. OK, we get it... you have some moral objection. Great... don't get an abortion, and don't accept any medical treatment that involved stem cells. But don't tell me I can't have the benefits of that stuff.

as long as the republicans rail against some people's morals (abortion, stem cells, homosexuality), they will continue to lose races against socialists.
