and no common sense to boot.

Look at her track record. This one may never make it out of committee. But then again, Sheila Jackson Lee (expletive deleted) (D) (Tx) is on that committee and may very well help push the bill through. I don't recognize the Republican names on the panel, and am not holding my breath. We're gonna have to hit all our elected congresscritters to kill this, and keep doing that every time it comes up.

Heres a link from the mule's own page:

http://carolynmccarthy.house.gov/ind...k=b&ItemID=675

She really doesn't know what she's talking about. Just another knee-jerk reactionary dhimmicrack.

Well, all you folks who voted for anyone but a republican now know what the next 2-10 years are going to be like. Maybe longer.

Well, that's certainly a good, effective, high-road argument against the bill.

I've been expecting this. As I wrote immediately following the mid-terms, certain of the strong anti-gun forces in Congress would have a need to reward their supporters by introducing a new AWB. This would have been introduced regardless of which party were in power, but what we now get to see is how far it goes in the Democratically-controlled House. So far, there are no cosponsors.

I hope the Dems have enough sense to bottle it up in committee. May depend on how many IOUs are owed Ms McCarthy. I will be very surprised if it survives a vote on the House floor, doubly if it gets through the Senate. It's possible the Dems might think they can use it to embarass Bush, since he promised to sign it. If so, it will be a big mistake, and they can expect a big spanking for their effort.

LOL, yeah, go ahead and keep believing that will make any difference in the
long run. If this makes it to George II's desk, he'll sign it just like he promised.
Of course, he could issue a signing statement that all GOPers will be exempted,
right?

Just a little irony I noticed, isn't it odd that HR 1022 has the same number as the model of an extremely well recieved .22 semi-auto rifle? Good omen or bad?

I noticed from the Carolyn McCarthy site that "In Salt Lake City, a young man opened fire in a crowded mall, killing more than 10 individuals."

That's double the number I heard

The Democrats are just throwing their most liberal members a bone with this bill. It won't pass. There are too many Democrats afraid of the wrath of the NRA.

Plus, even if it does pass, all you good Republicans have nothing to worry about because your President will veto it, right? Remember, you guys all said Bush was just playing politics when he said he would sign a new AWB. You guys don't think you are wrong now, do you? Do you?

And the Assault Weapon ban would've stopped the shooting in UT how?

No so called AW involved there.

If this gets to the floor (I doubt the Dems are that stupid), it'll be a good time for all the Dems who claimed they were pro-gun in the last election to put their money where their mouths are. I think a new AWB is one of the few things that would allow a pro-gun candidate to win the next presidential election. It would definitely ::fingers crossed:: kill the chances of gun grabbers like Guiliani.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd think that writing a thorough piece of legislation would take more than the few hours between the news of the two shootings and the introduction of this bill. It should be painfully obvious to anyone with an ounce of common sense that this bill was already written and the so-called "honorable" McCarthy was waiting for someone to be killed so she could introduce it.

Funny how a law against a weapon would have prevented the PA tragedy, but a law against MURDER didn't. How can anyone be so stupid?

Exactly! When will these people wake up and realize there is nothing inherently evil about firearms? The problem lies within the heart of man. All murderous rages begin there. You cannot legislate that. All you can do is pray to the Lord to turn hearts to the right.

More people want "sensible gun control" than they want troops out of Iraq.
Maybe we'll get lucky and just end up with a non-binding resolution or a
"sense of the Congress" statement?

I'm sure he said what meant and meant what he said on that issue.
He will sign it. So mote it be.

So perhaps I should order up some more magazines? This is really getting rediculous. I am tired of being demonized for owning guns. I have not committed any crimes yet here I am being made into a criminal.
