I've shot a bunch of SSR and ESR with a S&W 66 & a 625; shot very little SSP with a Glock 17.
Now I'm in the process of becoming a LEO and will take the opportunity to train with my duty weapon--a G35--in SSP. Factory-installed three-dot nightsights (Meprolight). Only mod is switching out the extended slide-stop (who thought that big shelf was a good idea?) for a standard one. Still working on my load; I want to shoot 165 gr. bullets (Rainiers) since that's the weight of our duty load; but I'm not so macho I need to shoot everything at top speed, so I'll reduce it to a PF of 145 or so. Will shoot from a Safariland 6280 (Level II ret) on a Bianchi belt. |

waynedm..
you choice would be OK for USPSA open division..but it does not meet the restrictions of IDPA.. couple of things that keep it out of the competition is the compensator and the size. compensators and porting are not allowed in IDPA..it is meant for guns that one would carry for self-defense. because of the compensator..it will not fit in the box that IDPA uses to control the size of the guns used... other CZs like the 75b, 75bd, 75SA would be fine. |

If this poll is really accurate, then ESR is seriously underpopulated. I think ESR should allow 7 or 8 rounds loaded and fired because we would probably gain more shooters (especially from ICORE) with 8-round .357 Magnum or .38 Super revolvers. The hard-core .45ACP, 10mm, and .40S&W 6-round enthusiasts will complain again, but I bet they will keep shooting.

EERW, that gun is going to be used in the Open class USPCA and IPSC. I'm going to use my P01 for Production.

I shoot SSR. I use either a M66-2 3-inch, or a M19-3 2.5-inch.

My tastes vary, but I normally shoot ESP. I set up a P16 that would work in IDPA and USPSA limited, but then the only local USPSA match went south. I continued to shoot it, It’s perfect for 3 gunning, and I try to standardize on one gun (wink). It’s my favorite, and I’m hearing rumors that another range may begin hosting USPSA.
Other times I shoot ESP with a BHP, and a STI 9mm (I bought this for my son when he shoots IDPA, but basketball season put him on hold …. So I’m just keeping it warmed up). I shot an XD40 too, till I got the P16, not the XD is sold. I shoot the SSP with a P99. I think it’s got the best trigger reset in the class. I used to use this 99% of the time, and I was much better with it then. Now I’m breaking my shots low …. CDP I have a SA 1911 loaded with a HEAVY TRIGGER, but it’s a tack driver. If the COF doesn’t punish a 10 round gun, I run this for 3 gun sometimes. One day I’ll compete in the HE man division, but I really like shooting my Saiga 12 ….. I also have a Para 1911 that I bought heavily smithed. It’s go the lightest trigger that I own but is set up for specific handloads and I’m still clearing space to begin my reloading again (ammo prices have made me rethink some things). SSR GP100. I’m REALLY a bad revolver shooter; reloads could be clocked with a calendar. I shoot that for diversity …. ESR GP100 loaded up with .357 mag’s. I’m even worse with these reloads. Can’t someone shorten those bullets up a bit

My combo for SSP is probably pretty rare, but I use it because I have a good source for the ammo so I can practice alot. (SSP Expert)
A Glock 31 .357SIG w/ 125g gold dots. Dawson Fiber optic front sight. 3.5lb connector, extended mag/slide levers, innertube grip. ![]()

In ESP, a “Franken-Glock” G20 with KKM .40 S&W conversion barrel. It’s monstrously big and I’m still working on long trigger pull issues.
In SSP, I have previously used my DW 715. This year, I’ll be using my S&W Model 19. If it will make the weight limit, I might try a S&W Model 28 after having an action job and reduced power spring set installed. I really wish Safariland made Comp III speedloaders for the 28. When I began IDPA three years ago, I used an AMT Government Model in CDP as a starter gun. I recently purchased a Kimber Tactical Custom II and will make this my primary competition gun. Finally, I bought a S&W Sigma .40VE I thought about using in SSP. At this point, with the amazing 1 ton trigger pull, it went back into the safe. It is very reliable, but the trigger is way too heavy for a comp gun. I’ll be installing a Wolff reduced power spring soon. If you’re looking for a good inexpensive (they can be found for less than $400US) self defense pistol, the Sigma is worth a look. Matt |

ESP with my Dark Earth XD-9 Tactical (5")
![]() I love the XDs, and this one is a serious work of art! The action cycles like it is buttered and the trigger is phenominal. Even my 1911 snob buddies think so ![]() Before I bought and modded the XD-9, I was using an XD-40 Service (4") with a 9mm conversion barrel. It also has:

SSP- Sig 229ST, all stock except for the grip tape on the front strap...
Will probably get a set of the truglo tritium fiber optic sights for it. I got a set on my off duty sig and they work... fast to pick up and take a beating.

I've only shot two IDPA matches, but I've now joined IDPA and plan on shooting them as often as my schedule permits. The only firearm I've shot IDPA with is the one that gets the most range time and the one that keeps me and mine safe at home all the time and out on the town most times, the ol' Taurus 65...
![]() But now the wood is replaced by Pachmyers, not as pretty but oh so concealable. By the way, watching HighVelocity shoot SSR is an awesome thing. I learned a better way to reload a wheelgun just by watching him. Thanks HV!! JLaw |
