Would you trade a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 & 5 33 round mags for a Yugo AK?
I might have an opportunity to do so. The Kel-tec is mint, with 3, 33 round mags. The Underfolder was bought soon after they became available, test fired a few times, and put away. It has the wood on the gas tube. Wondering if this would be a good trade, and/or if these two guns are too dissimilar to settle for one, or the other?
The nice thing about the Kel-Tec is that is I have it as a backup to my Glock 17 HD gun. The Yugo would be a safe gun for SHTF, and just in case another ban goes through anytime soon. |

I'm a big fan of pistol\carbine combos.
Now that that is out of the way, I'd say do the trade IF you don't already have a semi-auto defense rifle. The Yugo will reach out much further, and be much more adept at taking game in a crisis situation. Just my two cents worth. |

How in the world could anybody tell you what to do here? We can only tell you what we would do. With that said I personally would not do the deal.

It depends on how much you spent on the S2K and those mags and how much is the yugo worth, among other things.
How much is your carbine and mags worth in dollars all together? How much is the yugo and whatever it comes with worth? Based on those questions, would the trade be a loss or gain in monetary value? a. if it's a loss, does the yugo ak offer value in performance over your S2K that may make up for the loss? b. if it's a gain, are there any flaws in the yugo ak that you might not know about that may conflict with the gain? Which ever it is, loss or gain in monetary value, you're still going to have to figure out if the yugo AK will offer performance that is superior or negative to what you already have. I like the fact that it uses a rifle round. You might just want a yugo because it's bad ass. Both are good arguments. On the negative side, you might not like certain things like ergonomics or recoil or whatever, and that may override all other factors. Think about it first before you make a trade then regret it. Personally, if I had a S2K with 5 33rd mags I trade them for a nice, reliable, yugo underfolder AK if I was to at least get 5 30rd mags with it.

Just save up to buy an underfolder, you will regret trading your Keltec.
If you have not shot an underfolder be warned that the stock is a bad design for accurate shooting. Its hard to get a good or consistent cheek weld. It may look cool but a solid fixed stock or solid sidefolder is much better than underfolders or wire stocks. |

This is a tough decision for me. I like both guns. I actually had a Yugo Underfolder, but sold it a while back. Sold it because I was bored, and used it as fodder to get a new handgun. Now, I have to admit with the next election looking pretty dim, and with the number of recent shootings, I'm starting to wonder if I made a mistake. I've had some AK' and a bunch of SKS through the years, but as of now, I don't have any defensive rifles. Other than the pistol caliber carbine, and a Mossberg tactical, I only have hunting long guns currently (and those are left over from my childhood hunting days).

Also, my reason for seriously considering this is the fact that the Yugo seems like it would be the better tool in most situations. The thing that I really like about the Kel-tec is that I use a Glock for my HD, and for my primary CCW, and the Kel-Tec is small enough to easily fit it a backpack, or briefcase. |

For me, not a chance, I like my sub2000 with the G17 magwell just fine and really can't think of anything the AK does that's better. The main reson I have the sub is it fits in a standard briefcase with 5 x 33 round mags. If I need something with more punch I have plenty of AR's from .223 - .50 Beowulf.

Me? I would, in a heartbeat, provided the Yugo was a specimen in good condition with a mag or two. IIRC, the value is right at about equivilant (provided we're talking about the M70 w/ the wood stock, not the folder).
The thing is, Yugo AKs won't be available for very long; the Keltec should be available for repurchase for quite a while. That, and I've been lusting after one of those AKs, and have been watching the inventory go out of stock not having any $. |

If I have an AR, I wouldn't even be considering this.
I've seen, and shot this Yugo when he first got it. It's as nice as any, I suppose. I do like that it has the wood furniture, as opposed to the newer synthetic. I've also been considering the fact, that the Yugo's might get scarce. I guess the S2K could get scarce also, though. As far as I know, he hasn't had any malfunctions with the Yugo, and hasn't shot it much. The S2K has been flawless for me, with a little over 500 rounds through it. |

I have an M70 in wood and love it. Based on the comments in this thread, this forum, other forums, and knowledgeable people in general, I’m glad I got it now. Same for my Yugo SKS.
(How’s that for being zero help?) ![]() My personal philosophy right now is to acquire more, get rid of none, you never know. My call would be to buy the AK outright. Obviously I don’t know the OP’s financial situation but I’d try to scrape the $450 or so together somehow and keep the Kel-Tec. |

I wouldn't trade my sub-2000 for an AK signed by Mikhail himself.
Though I am thinking about buying a nice underfolder ak. Gotta stockpile the "assault weapons" that most likely could be banned in the future so I have some fun toys to play with and hand down to my kids some day. |

Many people don't enjoy underfolders because of a poor cheek weld. I'm not a big fan of overgrown pistols though either

Decisions... The individual with the Yugo AK is willing to make an even trade. The Yugo comes with 2 mags (one Yugo mag), bayonet, and cleaning kit. Now, I just have to decide if I want to do the trade for sure.
Thanks for all of the feedback. |

I already have more AKs that I know what to do with so getting a yugo underfolder is not even on the radar for me. On those grounds alone I would probably get the sub2000 and magazines.
On the other hand, I don't really care too much for 9mm, mostly because I hate owning a million different calibers of weapon and I already have settled on 45 as my "big pistol cartridge" and 380 as my "little pistol cartridge". If I owned neither, I would probably opt for the underfolder. The AK is comparable in size but way ahead in terms of power and usefulness. |

Read this before you decide...
Read this Sub-2000 compendium page before you make up your mind...
http://www.mouseguns.com/sub2000/sub2000.htm The Kel-Tec Subbies are getting harder to find, and they are truly more practical to own and shoot and carry than an AK. |

The Kel-Tec Sub 2000 in folded mode is just a HAIR over 18 inches in length and that fits neatly just about anywhere. Along with a couple of hi-cap 30rd mags and you'd be ready for nearly any crisis. Plus in the 9mm cal, you'd be able to find ammo almost anywhere. Gimme the Kel-Tec over the AK anyday for sheer versatility.

Thanks for the feedback. I like the Kel-tec, but wonder if the AK wouldn't be much more durable over the long run? I think the durability issue, is what I'm most likely to make the trade, based on.

I think you'd have to shoot quite a bit to wear out a sub-2000. Mine has always been reliable, even when I dropped all the ammo into the dirt by accident. I didn't really wipe much off either, just kinda shook it in my hand and loaded it up.

Durability
I look at it this way: if I were hiding out in the hills, in a "Red Dawn" scenario, I would rather have the AK. However, I'm 60, getting soft around the middle, and there is no way I could be a guerilla in the hills. The Sub is half the weight of an AK, shoots less expensive ammo, and is plenty durable enough for me.

You guys are making it a tough decision. I read one response, and think...I'll trade it. Then I read the next response, and think...maybe I'll keep it.
![]() As of right now, I think I'm going to go for it. Thanks for all of the responses, I do appreciate the feedback. |

You can buy another Kel Tec - they are still available for $300. I know, I just bought one! But I already own... well quite a few AK's. The Underfolder is a $450 rifle and the KT is a $300 carbine -the mags can be had for $20 on sale (I know, I just bought 7 of them!). Trade.
