Squirrel gun pics

Thought I would start a thread on squirrel gun pics if anyone would be interested. This is my favorite squirrel getter. It is a 20ga Stevens 107B full choke 28" barrel. I love being in the woods with this gun, and it is a squirrel getting machine.

"Hero"

My brother and I killed our first squirrels (and much more) with a "Hero" 12 ga single shot. It has a 30'' full choke barrel and was a takedown model. It was made by either Iver Johnson or Harrington Richardson(it was never clear). It has a factory nickle plated receiver and was bought new in 1904 for $4.25. This is a picture of my brother and his son and grandson. My brother is holding the "HERO", We refinished it as birthday surprise for our dad in 1980s. (My brother has it and this is the only picture I have of it,sorry it is so small)

I've used a shotgun for squirrel hunting, but it's been a while.

Nowadays, it's one of these.

1984 Ruger 77/22, 2006 Ruger 10/22 WWS, 1977 Ruger 10/22 DL, 1997 Ruger 10/22 DSP, 1995 Ruger 10/22 DSP, 1995 Ruger 10/22 Laminate stock, Remington 597, Stevens 46, 1982 Marlin 39A

My favorite is a Savage 24E-DL .22 mag/20 gauge. Leupold 1-4X scope on a BKL 260 unitized mount. .22 mag for shots with a good backstop; 20 gauge for tree rats up in the foliage.

I don't get all the shotguns for squirrels. I use a .17 hmr with a heavy barrel and it's a squirrels worst nightmare out to 160yds.

There are a lot of reasons to use a shotgun for squirrels. Close proximity to houses/cars/livestock/etc is one. It's what you have is another. They work well is another. I don't use shotguns much anymore, but I've killed more than a few with one.

Best squirrel gun I ever had was a Savage 24 O/U 22/20 ga that I traded off like an idiot.
