RSC Interior Re-model

I would like to help a friend out who wants to re-arrange the inside of an older RSC. It looks pretty wild right now with the orange shag carpet over particle board. I was thinking about replacing the thick particle board partitions with some thinner plywood to gain a little more volume inside the RSC. He wants the carpet changed out because it has actually reacted with some of the recoil pads on his shotguns. I am attributing this to plasticizer leaching. Can anyone suggest a suitable material to line shelves and contact points or any other advice?

Thanks,

Sounds like your friend has a Browning.

Most modern day gun safes are using a felt like material for the interior. It's the same fabric used to wrap speaker boxes for car audio applications, and is usually available at places that sell fabric.
