Wow, i wish i could have a hand on those kinds of ammunitions here in my "third world country"... Hornady TAP.
So fortunate for you gentlemen. Me, I could not even tell if the ammunition i'm using are 77 grains or 75 grains. I just use what ever ammunition i get from the military, and i ones i "smuggle out" from a licensed gun store. |

Not sure about your short 10 inch barrel but I know that I can and did engage targets out to 600 meters effectively with my M4 14.5 barrel.

Some other points about the use of military ball ammo:
It was mentioned in an earlier post that some special ops groups that are using 77 grain bullets. I have read this for years although I have no way of knowing if this is really true or not. I have heard it enough that I would imagine there is a lot of truth in it. If so, even the military itself isn't using standard ball ammo all the time: so why should we ? What if you are using a weapon that is not a military type weapon ? For example: a guy mentioned earlier that he has a 10" barreled T/C Contender and he is using A-Max bullets in it. So why isn't he using military ball ammo in his T/C and worrying about "fragmentation" ? Because military ball is a very poor bullet for civilian use. On these internet gun forums we hear all this talk about fragmentation etc. But the minute we switch weapons to bolt action rifles, or Contenders nobody EVER suggests they use military ball ammo. But if we are talking about an AR15 type rifle, these same people seem to think that you absolutely can't use anything but military ball ammo. I have no idea why ? If you are restricted to military ball ammo because you are in the military and are using it on military missions with military weapons, that is one thing. As a civilian, there are tons of other good bullets that don't worry about "fragmentation distance". You can tailor you bullet to what you want to do with it instead of trying to make one bullet work for everything.

They fight for land, or because a king makes them, or just because they like killing. But we're here for something new. I don't... this hasn't happened much in the history of the world. We're an army going out to set other men free." |
