There's no way to tell. When demand is this high you could wait 6 months for the order to be filled.

Look for MagPul's top 3 biggest customers and hope they're the ones most likely to get the biggest allocation at the earliest date and hope you're amongst the group with their orders filled first.

A statement from Pete Browell posted on AR-15.com on 12/20/2012:
Quote:
Hey Guys,

I wanted to take a minute to shed some insight on the magazine situation if i can. First of all I wanted to offer an apology for the situation that Pacs and anyone else encountered with magazines being "In-Stock" and Backordered moments later. Cedjunior had it correct, the demand for magazines actually exceeded the ability for the system to keep up with the volume that was being ordered. They way that our website works is that inventory is fed from our ERP system directly into the website in "real-time". Unfortunately, "real-time" is the amount of time that it takes for the transactions to work both ways. During normal circumstances, it is nearly instant. However, we've been receiving orders at such a pace that these transactions have gotten slower. We absolutely apologize again, we definitely don't want that ever to be your experience.

To shed some more light on the magazine situation at present, it really has been unprecedented in the last 5 days. (Edit - Sorry guys, meant 72 hour period) we sold the "average demand" equivalent of about 3 1/2 years worth of PMAGS, and and an even greater amount of our Brownells magazines. We're working like crazy to get these orders to you as quickly as possible.

We're working directly with Magpul daily to forecast out the next couple of months deliveries. Magpul is focusing their efforts on the BLACK magazines, so we're limiting backorders to only Black for now.

On the Brownells 30 and 20 round magazines, we're still flowing those into the system daily, and are producing those at 100% capacity as well. We ordered more material yesterday that will allow us to up production again in the coming weeks.

Our apologies for the delays! We'll keep working as hard as possible to get these going and will keep you updated always. Let us know if we can do anything at all. - Pete Brownell

if there is a major advance / breakthrough in the gun talks in January (Biden commission presenting results) ... I highly doubt that manufacturers will ramp up magazine manufacturing.

with a renewed AWB the sale/transfer of magazines AFTER the ban data would be illegal. Hence - any unsold magazine sitting in a shipping container or in a warehouse couldn't be sold on the civilian market. Manufacturers won't risk that.... especially if they push an aggressive timeline for a renewed AWB....

If you can get one or two new $50k machines online and fill demand long enough that the machines are free, they will do it.

Likely the "up production" comment, you can have a warehouse of material but if you don't have the equipment to change it's state from raw material to finished product, production won't change.

I don't know about Brownell's, but the Sportsmans Guide website indicates that many magazines of interest to me will be available in February of 2013. (I just had to use that free shipping code) However, I had a rep tell me over the phone that 7.62x39 Wolf is backordered until OCTOBER 2014! We both, he and I, thought that date was a little conservative, but that's what their system said as of a few days ago.

They can always be pinned and sold as post ban mags.
Here in Canada we have 5/30 round P Mags which are 30 rounders with an aluminum POP rivet preventing the mag from accepting more than 5 rounds.

Is there a website that will let you order Pmags backordered and they will be shipped upon arrival?

The last ban stipulated that mags had to be manufactured in such a way that altering them to accept >10 rounds rendered them destroyed. I'm sure a new ban would be the same. It was doable with the '94-'04 neutered mags, but not by your average joe, and certainly not by simply drilling out a rivet. We (myself and friends) converted several after the ban lapsed, but it generally involved semi-professional metal work and tig welding. Not everyone has sheet metal breaks, die grinders and tig welders at their disposal, nor the experience to turn out passable work with said equipment.

If they renewed the '94 ban without changing the language, all magazines manufactured before the effective date would be good to go. Post ban mags were marked "restricted LE/Military/Government use only". Those were illegal to possess (and still, many thousands were out there on the civilian market)

Ordered some ammo 2 weeks ago and they aren't shipping until after Jan 10th at the earliest so mags will probably take until 2014....

I would try Midway USA. I ordered from them last night and everything was on backorder. There is a 2 per customer limit, so I ended up ordering 2 regular PMags and 2 with windows.

The only negative I can say is that if you order just 2 MOE Pmags, your order will be under $25.00. Now you have to find something else to purchase or pay a $3.00 special handling fee for totals under $25.00

I went shooting today and they had 30 round AK magazines in stock. My guess is they just came in because those were the only thing hi-cap in the store.

They thing about backorders is whether they will honor the same prices or will they change their pricing. Since they haven't billed your CC yet, they can still revised and change their pricing right?

I had a few M3 Pmags on back order from Gunkings.com, they actually honored their price ($14.20 with free shipping on anything over $30). They just shipped yesterday, so that proves the suppliers are sending them out. But they barely have enough to fill their orders. So the bad news is they are once again out of stock...

I doubt a reputable company like Brownells or Midway would do that...

In case anyone wants to know, I ordered a 10 pack of magpuls on Dec 19th, and got them in February. It has taken Brownells the better part of 4 months to work through one weeks worth of backorders.

My PMAG backorder from Brownells from 12/26 arrived last Thursday 5/2. It feels good to have patience pay off. I'm glad I wasn't one of the panic buyers paying 50.00 plus per magazine.

Magpul 30 rd Gen M3 Backorder on Brownells

I ordered just one of these Magpul Gen 3 black, 30-round magazines on December 18, 2012 and still have not received it. That's a week before you placed your order. I'm glad you've received yours but need to ask if you ordered the same one (SKU #Stock #: 100-011-219WB)? I called them again today, and they could not tell me when I can expect to receive it. After some prodding, the customer service rep said they have orders for 400,000 units still unfulfilled, but I don't know if I can believe that.
