Well, the SL7 adds about 6 inches (15 cm) to the length and has a diameter on a tad below 2 inches (4.5 cm). It is a good piece, but still a bit heavy for that barrel, even though it is one of the lightest in it's class.

I have to think it over, why the POI shift is straight to the right and 1 meter @100 m. It seems to be a bit excessive.

I have limited experience with suppressors, but from what I know a good quality suppressor will typically only slightly affect the windage (affects on elevation can vary depending upon the construction, but typically results in less drop). I would be surprised if this has any affect, but might the larger projectile (.310cal. vs. the standard .308cal.) have some effect? My best guess is that the threads on the bbl were imprecisely machined (but not to the extent that it causes a baffle strike) and the gases do not flow evenly around the projectile causing it to veer to the side.

You might want to contact Zak Smith on here and see what he has to say, he's in the business and knows far more than I on the subject.

It would be my guess too, that the suppressor is slightly canted. The grouping was not bad and there was no keyholing. But back to topic, the rifle is not so bad suppressed, a lot easier on ears, both mine and neighbours.

Just picked up a VZ2008 and I have to say that I happy with my purchase. I cleaned her up, applied some Mobil 1, and off to the range I went.

She ran like Momma's Singer sewing machine. I let some of the other guys at the range put a few rounds downrange. Let's just say I was making friends.

My only problem is that I didn't pick one up sooner.

Now I see that you guys have been running them for years, and I feel like a dufus for not looking a bit harder before the Comblac spree.

At least a have a place to come for some good info thanks to you guys.

I currently own a VZ 2008 with the standard folding stock. For an optic I'm using a cheap 4X EER scope on a scope base that I've bolted onto the upper hand guard heat shield, and have added an additional layer of dense foam to the existing pipe insulation on the stock strut, to help get a higher cheek weld. It works okay, but I'm curious if a fixed stock would fit me better, and be easier to add more padding to increase the cheek weld height. Does anyone have a fixed stock (either the original beaver barf style, or polymer skeleton type) that they are no longer using, that I can experiment with? If so, please send me a private message. Cary, I've nothing for you (I purchased mine as a folder), but I think that you'll find the original solid buttstock to be the most comfortable and IIRC the skeleton style has a cheek-rest available OEM (so you might find this to be your best option).

Thanks for the info, Maverick. I've briefly handled a VZ with a fixed original stock, but have only seen pics of the polymer skeleton stock, so I have no idea of how that type feels / handles. I'd prefer the look of the original one, but at this point I want to try out either type to see if I like them better than my folder.

How long was the wait from Czechpoint I hear they are backed up quite far.

Nice gun by the way I have had mine for a few years and it is a great gun. I like it both in stock configuration (like yours) as well as all decked out with upgrades. Easy enough to switch back and forth so I just change it over until I get a receiver and build another .... or two.

I actually got mine from RRC Firearms, who had them in stock. I didn't order directly from Czechpoint on purpose because they only had the gray finish, and I far prefer the black....not to mention they were backed up a few weeks. RRC was excellent to deal with and the price was great.

just received a vz2008 myself. cleaned , lubed and ready for range as soon as i shovel the way to the 4runner ! this paticular build looks pretty good to me. lightened up the trigger a bunch, egged a loose handguard pin for tighter fit and she seems good to go..... i beat the panic at $499. i only wish i had bought one BEFORE they gain popularity

RRC seems to be the spot to go if they are going to keep those prices. They are selling close to the old Czechpoint price I would bet they will not be the same when they get them back in stock.

A gun on the shelf always beats one on backorder.

Don't worry I am still kicking myself for not grabbing a few of the vz2008's when they were selling for $399 a couple of years ago. Never hurts to have trade goods or a spare to sell. Prices are double that now.

just got back from the range, nice smooth shooter. shoots as well as my eyes will let it @50 yds . at 25 yds it was one ragged hole, 50 yds was decent also. makes my saigas triggers seem pathetic (unconverted). i may get a forend to mount an rds next, as these are my fav on these type of rifles. i want one more of these and i will sell a few ak variants

i checked trigger pull, 3 lb 13 0z just by bending spring steel arms down. it has a lil take-up, but its worth it. my 5.45 saiga has gotta go lovin this lil rifle

I've got a VZ 2008 with the gremlin problem. Rapid fire no problem, but squeezing rounds off slowly I get FTF about every 10th round. I do not have the welded carrier tab, but notice a bit of wear on the carrier "lug" and the tip of the disconnector. Probably normal. I've been reading your threads and they are very helpful. I am getting familliar with the VZ action and would like to know if its OK to dry fire while I am dinking around.

I'm no help with your problem, but I can at least confirm that it is perfectly okay to dry-fire this rifle. As you probably already know, dry-firing is required for field stripping (before you can remove the dust cover).

On another note, just today I picked up a violin case that someone didn't have use of...I did. I don't own nor do I play the violin. After re-working the upholstery and moving a few bits around, here's what I ended up doing with it:


Instructions are available upon request++; but the abbreviated list of modifications are as follows: 1. Remove the violin neck support and unnecessary upholstery 2. Reattach loops that hold the neck (now forearm) 3. Upholster a strong magnet (I used ones out of an old HDD) and screw it into place in the rear to hold the receiver* 4. Glue and/or double-stick tape upholstery back in place 5. Drill a 0.75in. hole in the front accessory box (if required)
*Optional ++Note that you will likely need a larger than average violin case to accommodate this rifle in stock configuration
