I thought it was a good deal anyway . Fellow selling it never cleaned it and said he bought it at a yard sale ,bore was coated with bore butter and someone popped off some caps makeing the bore look bad,2 swipes with a bore snake made it shine like a new dime and it is verry tight like it was not shot much ! Thank you !

My 5.5" New Army just rolled in from the brown truck, so I had to get a quick shot of it with it's older brother. The 8" Remington in the picture was my first cap and ball going on almost 3 years ago. My wife was pregnant with our daughter who was due at the end of July, so she thought it would be a fun idea to get me a "big ol' gun to scare the pants off her suitors" for my "first" father's day.
![]() I can't think of anything short of the Walker/Dragoons that would scare me as much as a looking down the business end of a RNA. I have to say that the chunky/stocky look of the shorter Remington looks even meaner than the full length version

"Witloe" Remington New Model Army
Wanted, any information concerning "Witloe Precision, Inc.". They made a replica Remington 1858 New Model Army revolver. Two models were made, the “Grant” and the “Lee”. The “Grant” had a steel frame and the “Lee” had a bronze frame. Also, revolvers marked just "Witloe". I wish to purchase any of these as well.

Dakoma,
Actually, recent research in the book, Remington Army and Navy Revolvers 1861-1888 by Donald L. Ware reveals that the Armi San Paolo/Euroarms 1858 revolver is actually an almost direct copy of the Remington - Beal's, Elliot's Transition to NMA,(not to be confused with the Remington - Beal's, Eliot's Patent Model), only produced for 6 months or so, (only 2000 or less made), before the NMA was introduced, the Elliot's Transition, had, the NMA lower hammer spur, the more rounded top of frame, the NMA Abor Pin and the Sail on the rammer was almost the same as the NMA, this model sail is due to the FIRST Elliot's Patent that allowed for the Arbor Pin to be slid forward to drop the cylinder out by milling and relieving the top of the rammer, these did not work well and that model was soon changed. The Remington - Beal's was in a constant state of flux until the NMA was introduced. The other telling feature of the R-B E transition model is that on this model there was an attempt to relieve fouling in front of the cylinder and it looks exactly like the ASP/Euroarms models show. There were SEVERAL new ideas manifested in the Elliot's Transition model, trying out the ideas, that for the most part came to fruitition on the New Model Army. The front sight is as HH said, different, as the original's were German silver. The Remington _ Beal's, Elliot's Transition Model is the rarest of the Remington Army,(and Navy),Models. I love doing this research. BTW this is confirmed in the above noted book on pages 342 -349. I used to own one of these Models that was converted to 44 Center fire and I cannot find a picture of it now, but it was very similar to the ASP/Euroarms pistols I had at the same time. At the time I could not find anything about it because I did not know where to look. Dang it, I should have kept that conversion...... I am of the firm belief that the Remington - Beal's , Elliot's Transition Model was, in fact, the revolver that Armi San Paolo acquired to copy and manufacture their version of the 1858 NMA.

Sometime around 4 today I posted a pic of my ROA and Remington 1858 new model on the black powder site. Do I automatically belong to the Remington group? It is equipped with an original butt facing holster and most likely has never been fired in the past 50 years

I just received my 1858 target model with two extra cylinders. I've a question for all you "shooter" of your firearms.
1) Do you ever shoot conicals such as the .45 ACP 452-200 RF from LEE? 2) Do any of you "size" conicals down to a loadable diameter? Aloha...

Rattus58,
I shoot the LEE 44 conical in my 44 Remmies. They are 200gr and have a slightly rebated driving bands so the bullet drops into the second band before ramming it home. I don't shoot that many of them so I hand lube them by rubbing my home made BP lube into the grooves (at home rather than at the range). 30gr FFFg makes a nice "thumper".

Rattus,
Look under their BLACK POWDER molds. One is for the Ruger Old Army the other is for everything else. The ROA Conical is 220grs the one you want for the Remington is 200gr.
