I'm also in Joe Robach's district and he's a pretty good guy but I'm gonna stop by his local office in the near future and give the office some feedback and get some more information on the latest developments. If this crap ever got passed I'd be an instant criminal even though I have a clean record and have had a NYS pistol permit since 1974. If I ever become an instant criminal my only consolation will be that I know I'll have lots of company because I know a lot of folks in the same boat as I am. If these people want draconian gun laws let them move down to NY City.

We are discussing here in the local forums and organizations that people in the state are not going to comply should this ever pass. Many LEO's have expressed that they will not enforce these type of law. The first huge issue is that this proposal violates a few other constitutional rights so this will hit the supreme court in no time.
Many citizens and specially the political class need to take some time aside to read the constitution in fully and with an open mind.

I am taking this note from the local forum in case others can help with the situation we have here in Newyorkistan.

SCOPE (Shooters Committee on Political Education ... http://scopeny.org/) is sending this Alert to put all firearm owners on notice that the time to act is now. New York State has positioned itself to pass the most draconian gun laws in the nation. Governor Cuomo is pressing hard to push these bills through. Without a majority in the State Senate to block these measures; their passage is a very real possibility.
We are asking all members to forward all SCOPE communications to concerned citizens on their contact lists and ask them to contact their legislators. Time is short and the consequences of inaction are unacceptable.
These bills, with the Governor pushing for confiscation or a permit system for Modern Sporting Rifles, represent the biggest threats we have faced since 1968. You cannot relax if you do not own one of these rifles because they will divide and separate. Your firearms are next of their list if they succeed here.
SCOPE’S leadership, while representing thousands of firearm owners through individual memberships and clubs, cannot fight this battle alone. This is your call to action. Your participation is no guarantee that we will win this important fight to protect your Constitutional rights but we can say with certainty that anything short of overwhelming our legislators with calls, emails and letters we have virtually no chance. Truth is the only thing that really motivates most legislators is their next election and by contacting your legislators and letting them know that your vote depends on their support is crucial.
We are doing everything within our power to defend your rights, but remember we are an all-volunteer group and we need you to join us in these efforts.

Here is the ACTION PLAN

Forward this to your friends contacts and associates. Spread the word on Forums like NY Firearms with 6600 members or USA Carry with 45000 members or AR15.com with their 11,000 members etc Share on Face book etc. Pass this to at least 10 people that you know and plan to make some phone calls on Monday and Tuesday!

The Governors State of the State Speech planned for Wednesday January 9 at 1:30 PM.
Gun Owners, their families, friends and supporters of the Constitution need to invest a few minutes of their time and make some phone calls.
On Monday and/or Tuesday of this week, prior to the State of the State Address,
Call the Governor’s Office (518) 474-8390– AND LEAVE THIS MESSAGE:
"I am a law abiding, tax paying, voting, citizen of New York State and I strongly urge you not to impose any further restrictions, laws or regulations on my Second Amendment Rights as granted by the United States Constitution".

Then you call Senate Leader Skelos and Klein and leave the same message.
Then you call Assembly Leader Silver and leave the same message.
Please make these phone call messages to our ELECTED representatives. If the trunk lines into the capital become overloaded with call volume then so be it......this is the goal. WE MUST BE HEARD.

While waiting, you can also access their respective web sites and voice your concern through email message. Write the same message as above or add your own but be civil.

All phone numbers and links are listed below.

Additional Ideas from the NYS "Gun legislation Committee" released yesterday. Reposting from NYFirearms

Quote:
Stronger Gun Laws: A Plan to Protect New Yorkers
Require Universal Background Checks on the Sale of all Guns

Require all gun sales, including sales between individuals, to go through a licensed firearmsdealer where a background check can be performed and proper records kept.

Require criminal background checks on all gun dealer employees handling guns.
Strengthen Assault Weapons Ban

Broaden the definition of assault weapon to ban any weapon that has one prohibitedcharacteristic rather than two as specified in current law. Include a provision for theSuperintendent of State Police to review new assault weapons and add them to a list of banned weapons if they meet statutory criteria. Currently New York City has such a ban.

Ban possession and sale

no grandfathering.
Strengthen High Capacity Ammunition Magazine Ban

Ban possession and sale of all high capacity ammunition magazines over 10 bullets.
Microstamping Legislation to Help Law Enforcement Solve Gun Crimes

Require all semi-automatic handguns

sold or delivered in New York to be equipped with anew technology that imprints a unique code onto the shell casings every time a gun is fired,so that guns can be traced from shell casings found at crime scenes.

Require Gun Licenses to be Renewed Every 5 Years

Require 5-year renewable licenses for all those owning handguns. Currently licenses areonly required to be renewed in New York City, on Long Island and in Westchester.
Improve Gun Dealer Regulations

Require gun dealers to have stringent recordkeeping, submit inventory to law enforcement, store firearms safely, and report lost or stolen firearms.
Regulate Ammunition Sales

Require background checks or showing of a permit on all ammunition sales. Look into typesof ammunition sold if one does not have a handgun permit.
One Gun a Month

Limit people to the purchase of no more than one handgun a month.

I called as an out of stater and reminded them that I would be supporting organizations that would aim to sue the state of NY for impinging on rights as directed by DC vs Heller.

I'm curious as to why 1stmarine thinks dropping one's cable service would make any difference. First, not every cable company has a hand in producing news coverage, and second, even those that do, such as Time-Warner, are vast conglomerates, where the folks who produce TV news coverage don't even communicate directly with the local cable service folks.

I certainly wouldn't put dropping my cable service and sending them a letter in even the top ten things I'd need to do to oppose legislation like this, although for the record, I do live in Texas, and I may just not be aware of what the connection is, in New York.

Thanks mates. We have to keep doing this.

The proposed measures in the State of the State might be passed as soon as possible. So we need to keep those lines on fire and keep doing this for the rest of the nation with the feinstein idiotic proposals.
The ARs and the AKs being restricted are not going to make anyone safer other than the criminals themselves. But simple logic is no in the politicians book. They follow the media and how look they look on TV only.

Some vicious forces are at play here. You need to understand there are senators and congressman out there that have wet dreams about shooting down the entire firearms business and disarming the population for good. If it was for them they would disarm even the police and even branches of the military.

They are out of control and they will stop at nothing but they understimate the power of the people when fundamental rights are at stake.

I have been thinking. I believe strict bans will temper with a few realities.

1. Serious gun owners will not be disarmed.
2. There is a difference between politicians making political noise and real
activists. When the media fuel reduces the politicians will follow the
media.
3. Prohibition is likely. It will force the industry underground and then
they will have huge problems to deal with.
4. The protect needed is primarily form Gov't. Gov't is scared of the
population. They underestimate the blow back on this issue and will lose
eventually.
5. There will be a true resistance. Resistance has many levels and the financial pressures are the ones that will be felt the most.

To fuel the debate is what the media wants. If the issue goes silent and then the politicians realize there is no political gain and separately no support,
the issues will subside.

Have you seen S805-2013? If passed:
NYS gunowners will be charged $ 15.00 per gun registered. Yep you have to register your guns and are given the privelege of financing the machinery New York State will use to eventually confiscate your guns.

This is amazingly rediculous. Who thinks of this?

"Requires all semi automatic handguns sold or delivered in New York to be equipped with anew technology that imprints a unique code onto the shell casings every time a gun is fired,so that guns can be traced from shell casings found at crime scenes."

So keep writing and those lines on fire. At the moment it looks that with
the peoples support the parties are going to do some rethinking but this
is far from over.
I think Microstamping is a bargaining chip to screw us in some other one.
But I also think Cuomo is loosing momentum and the people are speaking.

My mother used to say...

Be careful when you ram, because if you try to ram too hard you might
end up ramming into your own azz.

Thanks. Keep writing. Keep calling. We don't take a break.

Shapiro did a good job, except when he engaged Piers on the whole "why do you new an AR-15?" Question.

This is about needs. It's about rights. The burden is on the government to demonstrate why they "need" to curtail our rights. They've have failed to provide any evidence that banning these weapons would make us safer, thus they have failed to establish a need.
