8 month Form 4 wait time?

Any body else experienced this? My check was cashed June 20 and I'm still waiting. This will be my first suppressor and I'm getting impatient. Just wondered if anyone else has waited this long or if there is anyway I can check the status of my application. Thanks

That sounds a little longer than usual, but still semi-normal.

The range seems to be anywhere from 5-7 months, most being around 6.

When did it go pending? Have you called ATF's NFA branch to check on it?

After 6 months its definitely worth checking -- they screw up not infrequently and mark it as sent without actually sending it. If I hadn't called I'd still be waiting! Got it seven days later.

Also a lot of dealers that sell a lot more guns than suppressors are letting their suppressor business slide -- after all, they've already got your money. Had this problem last month, dealer had it but couldn't be bothered to let me know it had come it.

I'm hitting 6 months right now; by far the longest I've ever waited.

Call to make sure it's not in problem status. More than 6 months is unusual.

5 months and 1 week, with two weeks in there because i had a small typo. Just got approved Feb. 5th.

8 months wait time, there is definitely something wrong. Call NFA Branch, and they should talk to you about it. Unless your dealer or transfer-er did not circle the box that allows you to be kept in the loop, on the Form 4.

First call should be to dealer/tranfer-er; if they dont know whats going on or they arent sitting on your paperwork, i would then call NFA.

Be polite, courteous, and have your serial number ready to give to the operator.

Call the NFA branch and have your serial number ready. Write down the pending date and what examiner its assigned to.

Thanks for the help. I've went by my dealer last week just to make sure they hadn't lost my phone number and they said hadn't heard anything. Ill get my serial number and see what I can find out from the ATF.

I sent in a form 1 to SBR an AR receiver the first week of August and just checked on it ... approved yesterday and they said it should be here in 2 weeks or less.

My first MG was just approved yesterday. It went pending August 21st, 2012. It took 178 days from pending to approved, it is my 6th transfer in the last 18 months and all of them have taken between 165-180 days, pending to approved.

Seems a tad longer, but I can't say I'm surprised. Just try not to think about it.

I just wanted to update this thread. I finally brought my Gemtech G5 home today, one week short of a year from the day I started the process. After I posted in February I went by the dealer to get my serial number and they wouldn't help me out. The owner of the shop told me it was a waste of time to call and ask questions. This was around the first week of March.
My work schedule kept me pretty tied up for the last month and I hadn't been back to the shop since then. They are located about 45 minutes from where I live so its hard to just stop by. I assumed if my stamp came back they would call me. Wrong. Today I finally had a chance to go and it was there. I was happy and mad at the same time. The date stamped on the bottom of the form next to the examiners name was December 20, 2012. I don't know if that's the day it was approved or when it finally made it to the top of the pile but either way I think it's been at my dealer for a while. Oh well, I have it now and love it so all is good. If anyone wants to know which store in North Texas I don't recommend, PM me and I'll tell you.

Rant over.

Good day,
Blake

If they did you wrong, what is the harm in giving out their name publicly? At at later time if somebody is researching on where to buy or not buy, their name coming up in the search will help others better. PMs only help somebody who reads this thread and also happens to live in your area. Or is there a rule against giving bad feedback in here?

I had my suppressor 3 days after the date on my form for approval. If your date was stamped Dec 20 2012, you should have had your item within just a few days after that. I would find another dealer.

I figured that was most likely the approved date. I made up my mind way back when they wouldn't give me my serial number that once I got my can I wouldn't be back at Texas Knifeworks and Guns. His excuse was he recently bought out his partners share of the business and it was his partner who handled the Class 3 paperwork.

As was stated, the date is the approval date. Dealers are receiving approved forms back anywhere from 3-30 days after approval.

Definitely call. I had a form 1 approved last July that was lost after approval and never reached me. I ended up getting a certified copy from them. If I hadn't called I wouldn't have known that something had gone wrong. When I called they told me to wait the full month and then mail them to request the copy.
