Hornady 9th Edition vs 8th Edition?

What does the Hornady 9th edition add that the 8th edition doesn't have besides $27.00 to Hornady's pocket?

There are some new cartridges (300 BLK for one), new powders, and probably some of Hornady's new bullets are in #9.

It was a worth while expense for me.

If you have need for the few new cartridges and a couple of new powders ... it may be worth the $$ , but the normal .223, .243, 25/06, 270.... stuff ...it is just a reprint of #8.

From what I've read about 6 months after Hornady #8 was released Hornady came out with some new bullets and a few new powders came out too. Add to that a few cartridges like the 300 Blackout they had to release the 9th Edition manual. It's the 8th Edition that is not needed not the 9th Edition...

For which cartridges?
Yes for 178gr and 180gr bullets in the 30-06.

I'm looking specifically for loads with small-ring mausers: 6.5x55 and 7x57. Might try it in 7.5x55, 7.62x54 and 8x57 as well. I'm intrigued by Hodgdon's claims regarding Hybrid100v's ability to get higher velocities with lower pressures than other powders generate....

6.5X55 - Yes and with all bullet weights (Hodgdon has data with 107gr bullets and heavier)
7X57 - No (Hodgdon does with all bullet weights)

7.5X55 - No (No Hodgdon data either)
7.62X54R - No (No Hodgdon data either)
8X57 Mauser - No (No Hodgdon data either)

I was told Hornady still hasn't included the .338 Federal in their new no. 9 manual. I don't understand why they stubbornly support the new .338 Marlin Express and the .338 Ruger Compact Magnum. I know that the .338 Federal isn't exactly setting sales records, but I would wager that there are more rifles out there chambered for the ATK supported round than the Marlin and Ruger combined. (Obviously, Hornady teamed with Ruger for the RCM line and I have no idea why they offer data for the Marlin round.) The new Nosler No. 7 has data for the .338 Fed, as well as the latest Speer and Lyman manuals, so I guess I don't really need the new Hornady manual anyway. It is just a little surprising how they have chosen to ignore Federal's only centerfire rifle round.

Maybe because THEY developed those rounds for Marlin and Ruger?

I generally cross-reference data between the Hornady 7th edition, Hodgdon's online data, and the Lyman 49th edition. Sounds like I don't need to rush out and buy the Hornady 9th edition. . . .

Meanwhile, during these times of extreme drought, Hybrid100v is one of the few powders that I can actually find on the shelves at the local stores. I like it in the Swede and the 7x57s.
