Is it possible to make a Yugo M92 out of an AK 47 (AKMS)...or am I laboring under a misconception?...

Sure. Why you would want to destroy a $15,000 AK-47 is beyond me, though.

You mean start with a standard-pattern AKM and make a Yugo M92 out of it? Not exactly. And not easily. Why?

You talking about making it an underfolding model?

Just a matter of drilling the right holes in back and picking up a Yugo rear trunion/stock kit.

Front gas block would be the real pain if you wanted the grenade launcher site though. That's a TON of work if you were to keep the original barrel. That's a ton of work if you wanted to rebarrel it with a Yugo kit too, since the front trunion is COMPLETELY different from a normal stamped receiver and will not fit.

). And yes, it is an underfolder AKMS. It would APPEAR to me that it would just be a matter of changing everything from the front trunion forward...or would that include a matching trunion? Are the trunion rivet holes in the same place?

Zastava (Yugo) 7.62mm M92 developed from the 5.56x45mm NATO M85.
The 5.56mm M90 is a full size rifle version of the M85, with a M90A folding stock version. M90 and M90A can accept a grenade launcher like the earlier 7.62mm M70 series.

While it does have a three-slot forearm, I do not think it is based on the Zastava M70 series: the barrel trunions appear different to me.

However, the Zastava (what we call Yugo) variations of the Kalashnikov are not interchangeable with other nation's semi-auto or select fire versions of the AK series.

If you want to make a sort of M85 lookalike from an underfiolder AK (presumable a civilian semi-auto AK, and not an NFA eligible AK-47), it can be done (on a Form I); the Soviets (now Russians) have made a slew of movies with M16 lookalikes built on StG44s.

Yugo M92's are sexy. I have a MAK90 but have strongly considered selling it and upgrading to a Yugo. One of these days...
