Whats the biggest kick i can get for under?

I made a post not to long ago and there were some very good suggestions but since i cant buy them all "wish i could " Im going to ask up front ..

I want to buy a gun that has a hell of a kick.Something that would hurt me .Only reason i want it is to fill a void in my current collection.I dont mind spening 10 dollars for a cartrage if thats what it takes..Is it possible to do with only a thousand dollars? looking for anything other then shotgun .Thanks

H&R .45-70 Handi-Rifle. About 200 bucks. Another 150 or so for rings and a low-powered optic (or aperture sight). About 20 bucks for PMC .45-70 ammo.

Insert ammo. Aim at target. Pull trigger.

Cry.

(Buffalo Bore has even stouter loadings on tap, including a 405 grain JFN @ 2000 fps. http://www.buffalobore.com/ammunition/default.htm#4570)

An M-44 mosin in 7.62x54Ror a straight pull mannlicher in 8x56R shooting surplus ammo will be cheap and hard kicking. Ain't going to kick as hard as a 3" 12 guage with turkey loads, but if you shoot either of these enough it will hurt.

Yep, the M44- or 38, for that matter- will let you know. I think AIM had the 38's on sale for $39, recently!

weatherby ultra-light in 300 mag. puts forth a little whop, but might be a touch over what you want to spend.

i think your money is better spent on a remington lss in 375 ultra, or 338 ultra. $650-ish for the rifle, and the ultras have the powder cap to get a decent kick, even more than the ultra-light weatherby.

next good choice would be to buy a new remington rifle, send it off to pac-nor and have it rebarrelled to 338 lapua w/ a #4 or less barrel contour... then you'd have a sporter weight 338 lapua. lots o' kick there, too.

the most economical and easiest choice though, is the lss in 375 rum.

I've seen some single-shot 12 guage shotguns for about $50 at gunshows, well used. IIRC, they weighed about 5-6 pounds. Load it up with slugs or 000 buckshot....ouch.

The thought alone of shooting 45/70 out of a handi-rifle hurts so bad it makes me want to cry without even pulling the trigger. Yow!

You're daft as hell, but go buy a Winchester Model 70 African in .458 Win mag and shoot it off a bench. Spend the ten bucks on a dictionary and use it. Spelling counts if you want to be taken seriouisly.

I believe there are still NEF single shot 10 gauge shotguns out there. It shouldnt be too hard to find something that will kick your butt in that range. Bear in mind though that doing this is a REALLY easy way to develop a flinch that will take you years to kick.

Ruger no.1 in 458 winchester rechambered to 460 Weatherby. About 40% more recoil than most of the above. The stock could split and you may well hurt yourself. If you are careful you can do it for under $1000 without a box of ammo. It's a lot to pay to get the snot kicked out of you.

My winchester defender (lightweight) with federal 1.25oz 3" magnum slugs brings a new meaning to the word "violence". If it didn't have the recoil pad it would be unshootable.

For a real cheap butt-whoopin'...

One of the Mosin-Nagant carbines M-38 or M-44 under $75

20 rounds of surplus "Heavy Ball" 7.62x54R ammo about $5

Time on the range to shoot 20 rounds...maybe $10

Make sure the Mosin-Nagant still has the steel butt-plate, no rubber/plastic plates allowed.

There you are...one made-to-order butt-kickin' less than $100

No hard to get rifles or exotic rare ammo, just plain cheap "whomp 'em upside th' head."

Why would you post something like this? This guy just wants to get some advice.

To the original poster, think about an old Mauser or Enfield and have it re-chambered in any butt-kick cartridge you like. You can get Mausers for less than $100 now.

Or even seriously.

It appears Sunray woke up crabby, again. Big surprise, that.

Ruger #1, .45-70, hot Category III loads, then if that isn't enough recoil, rechamber to .458 Lott or some of the Alaskans as offered by J.D. Jones. Shoot them off the bench, no scopes or slings to keep the weight of the rifle down.

Another vote for a Moisin Nagant carbine. Brutal.

Cost is less than $100 with ammo and there's $900 bucks left for something more worthy of your interest than self-inflicted punishment.

A used safari grade Remington in 458 - even with a muzzle brake added restored my sanity. Shot it 3 times first time out. Next 3 times I only fired 2 shells.

Now I won't even fire a 30-06. 25-06, 7x57 mauser, 308 in a heavy military semi-auto is as high in recoil as I'll go. ( Calcification of the spine and neck is my excuse ). Plus it's fun to actually hit what you shoot at instead of seeing how close you can miss by.

I fired one THR´s NEF single shot 10 gauge, weighing about 6 pounds. G*d almighty, nearly knocked me over and I was leaning into it.
Very good 'bang to buck' ratio.

Use the $1000 to rent a bolt action 50 BMG. Take the muzzle brake off.

Only shoot it one time. Twice would be foolhardy.

I say get a NEF 10 gauge for like $200 or so and it kicks like an elephant for me. I shoot it once and it kills me. I am a big guy and I shot it Monday and I had to lift my front foot to keep from falling back. I couldn't shot it again on the trip after that shot. I have never shot it with slugs but I don't think I could handle more than 2 shots with it and mine weighs 9lbs 6oz or so.

When I shot 5ptdeerhunter's 10 gauge NEF last time, I didnt really think it was THAT bad. I didnt take any steps back and I could of easily shot it a few more times, but yes it was indeed painful.

Get a NEF Handi Rifle in 45/70 and cut the barrel to 16.5 and put a synthetic Youth stock on it without the internal weight. Then shoot some Corbon loads.
