A Ruger Collection

Some of the Utah Chapter came out for a small Gathering.
In attendance were some very nice Ruger revolvers:

Let's see if I remember right...
The one on the top is a .357 Magnum Blackhawk Bisley.
This was a smooth shooting handgun that printed a nice one hole shotgroup just a touch high over the bullseye because it was sighted for a heavier and much hotter load... SWEET shooter. Unfortunately it wasn't for sale.
The next one is a .357 Magnum Redhawk... Another nice shooter that was handling some insane 180 grain magnum loads that produced a nice flash of fireball on each side of the cylinder. Again, good groups... would have been better, but those cool wood grips were just a tad bit loose.
Then we have the .41 Magnum that I tried out with Brown Bear/Bigfoot hunting loads. Impressive horsepower at the upper end of the .41 Mag spectrum.
Then lastly on the bottom was a nice little SP101 that had a heavy but smooth trigger pull... and it too produced a nice one hole shot group. Admitedly this was shot from only 10 yards because it is a belly gun after all... but it was still a sweet shooter.

I have to admit to really liking that little SP101... nice pocket rocket for CCW work. I wouldn't feel undergunned with one... not at all. Not when it shoots like that.
The loads I used for that group were just some 158 Blazers. (Yes, that was all 5 rounds)
Not bad at all.

(Yes, my glasses are safety rated)

This photo shows a lesson to be learned.
Note the revolver being held... note the gun lock on the gun... note that the gun lock remained on the gun because the key to the gun lock was not available at the time... it was left behind.
I can imagine a home invasion robbery where your Home Defense Gun is locked up for "Safety".
My only theory about this is that the Anti-Gun Lobby, who pushes these kinds of locks are Pro Victimization of Citizens... because the only thing these pieces of crap make safe are the Goblins. Gun Locks are Pro-Crime and Risk Lives.

oh boy I love ruger revolvers. My collection includes a 5.5" single six, a 7.5" vaquero .44 mag, a 5.5" redhawk .44 mag and an 3"Sp101 .357. Now that I think about it that's pretty much a complete handgun battery. Squirrels to dear, self defense, CC, and plinking. Might need a GP100 to round that out properly or a Super Redhawk .454 to include our elk friends.

I also really enjoy my SP101. I just but some houge monogrips on it (looks to be the same as the ones you've got there) I've been working with concealing the SP and at this point I don't mind the 3" barrel. I can regularly ding a 15 inch metal wheel rim (off some sort of toy tractor I think, it's solid) that's hanging at about 40 yards at the range. That's with some .38 special wadcutters though, haven't tried it with the throttle all the way open yet.

Glad to hear about your glasses saftey rating, but wait, no, don't tell me that your finger is inside the trigger guard?

Hey Wheelman, it's rounded out alright: there's also a 3" security six, a 6" full underlug GP100, a 9.5" 44 SRH, and a 9.5" 454 to go with those other 4.

As for the "insane 180gr" 357 loads: just XTPs doing 1350 in front of a heavy charge of 2400(Winchester or Starline brass only).

The 41 bigfoot loads were speer 220hjsp at about 1400fps.(Somewhere we have a picture of the fireball when lighting this thing off.) Gotta love a heavy charge of blue dot!!! I have driven them safely to 1550 with a charge of N110 in Winchester cases. I don't shoot that load very often though.

It was nice to finally meet some of the crew. Good times were had by all.

As George will attest, I can't stand inaccurate guns or loads.
And yes he is correct on which guns are which.

And yes that is a 7.5" bisley gripped 357 with the engraved cylinder. George had the pleasure of firing the 104th-109th rounds the gun's ever seen.

Hello George,

Although my larger "collection" is made up of CZ's, I also like Rugers. The current stable includes a 3" SP101, a KP95, a KP97, a Mark I target with bull barrel, an Old Model Single Six and an Old Army cap-n-ball. I've only had one Ruger that I didn't particularly care for: a P944 in .40 caliber.

Great guns all, with the one exception.

Had a great time shooting, but the tactical range needed a little maintenance. We knocked a few of the Christmas tree targets off the pole, and passed around a piece of steel about the size of a dime that splashed back at us at one point.

Yes, his finger seems to be in the trigger guard. (Tsk. Tsk.) As a bystander watching him shoot , at least I can assure everyone that the gun was empty and pointed in a generally down-range direction at the time the photo was taken....

Actually, if you look closely the tip of his finger is just barely past the trigger guard, not actually inside it, but you have to look close. I'm sure because I did a quick double-take just before the picture was snapped.

I've collected a couple of Rugers over the years

After I took that pic I added a Blackhawk to the collection

Ben,

A 6 inch full lug GP100 was the first handgun I purchased. Traded it for the Vaquero.

George, next time down come ready to eat one of the best hamburgers you've ever had. It's a place a little closer to the range than the Durango grill. It's all made to order, no heat lamps. And the malts they make.......

That's it going there for dinner tonight.

I have to confess a liking for Rugers too...

A .44 Magnum Blackhawk Bisley, .41 Magnum Blackhawk (3-Screw), a pair of .357 Magnums and the old Mark I.

Something about those 3-screws(click-click-thunk-click) and the "stick" they called a trigger.

But the only one I have, a 357/9mm covertible will shoot 1 hole at 15yrds with 357 and 1 inch with 9mm. I even got the box and paperwork with it.

The ruger flier that came with it shows a 44SBH suggested retail at 89.95!!!

I have another version of the picture in question, a higher res version that is too big to post. In the bigger picture you can see that my finger is not inside the trigger guard... my fingertip is resting on the side of it, but from the angle and lighting - it does look like it could be inside the guard.

Hey Ben, if you want to trade that SP101 for a S&W 66 just let me know. I gotta get me one of those.

George, you are a great guy and all, but no dice. That one is my "always" gun. Next time I'll let you try some of my carry loads, they shoot just as good or better than the blazer. I suspect they are a little warmer than that CCI stuff.

Chrono time anytime we can get together though. Please don't shoot it!!

Where's the redhawk fireball pic??

Hkmp5sd: My Blackhawk is a .41, gotta love that caliber!

George, what's to like about an SP101???

Bead blasted with polished cylinder flutes, Wolff spring kit, Trijicon front sight, Eagle Secret Service grips.

I couldn't catch the fireball in a still frame, but I do have a video clip of it. It's 2 Megs large if you want me to email it to you.
It's in AVI format so I can't post it, unfortunately.

Sisco - That one is awesome.
