Pls ID handgun on episode of "FRIENDS" (NBC)
It may be a fool's hope that someone out there knows/remembers...
but it's always bugged me not knowing... I think it was in the fourth season of FRIENDS, where one of the guest stars was Charlton Heston hisself. Anyway, the big guy's in a pretty long scene with Matt leBlanc, and he's got this shoulder rig on --pistol and mags. Thanks for any help.

I thought the show took place in New York? Mr. Heston might have had a tough time in reality pulling off the same stunt, heh.

From a search on Charlton Heston on the Internet Movie DataBase (imdb.com):
"Friends" (1994) playing "Himself" in episode: "The One with Joey's Dirty Day" (episode # 4.14) 5 February 1998 Hope that helps!

Hi,
Thanks for finding the specific episode. I merely caught it on a rerun. The way I recall the scene was: Joey (Matt LeBlanc) comes home one night from a fishing trip with his Dad, smelling awful and dead tired, and excited about a minor role in a movie-shoot the next day, since the movie stars Charlton Heston. Joey wakes up the next morning in a panic, because he's already late for the shoot. He'd fallen asleep without even showering or changing clothes from the night before. No time to clean up now, so he just bolts out of the aparment. He shows up on the set, smelling even worse, and finds out that Mr. Heston has a great star-perk: a shower in his dressing room, so... Well, of course Mr. Heston, jacket off to show his shoulder rig, enters his dressing room right then and catches the hapless Joey still in the shower, and well, there's tautly-controlled verbal hell to pay... Still no clue on what Mr. Heston's pistol was, though... I remember it looked like either a small 9 or maybe even a .380, though Mr. Heston's a pretty big guy and that might've made the pistol look smaller. Just one of those things that won't quit bugging me.

I searched for "friends 414" on Kazaa and came up with something but it looks like there aren't enough sources to get the thing downloaded.

Okay,
Someone who lurks but doesn't post sent me these screencaps. They're rough, but maybe you can make something of 'em. ![]() "Put some pants on, kid, so I can kick your butt!" ![]() That pistol sure looks bigger than I remember. ![]() Please help me out here.

Look closer. That's a fullsize frame on that Glock.
And given that Mr. Heston is, shall we say, "old school," it's probably a 45acp G21 - possibly a 10mm G20. There's just no way my President would ever allow himself to be photo-ed carrying a prissy 9-minimeter in the Big Apple. Let's get serious. Anyone who's taken out as many "apes" as Mr. Heston has is serious about stopping power. ![]()

I got the episode. Joey landed an acting job alongside Heston who plays a cop, which is why he's wearing a gun.
Another screen capture:

Yep, you can tell by the size of the spare mags in the carrier it's either a 20 or 21.

Being TV and all, is it even a real gun?
I didn't think that was allowed, even by the Prez.

rick,
The TV show is itself make-believe ![]() I was interested in the portrayal of a handgun on a massively-popular primetime TV hit like FRIENDS. Granted, as Ukraine Train points out, Mr. Heston is playing a cop in the movie --a "loose cannon", as Joey (LeBlanc) put it -- and so the Glock is likely a mere prop being portrayed as a mere prop. I don't think anyone really thought it was a real gun, especially since the show is taped in CA, and seeks to portray scenes from NYC. Howsoeverbeit, and I was merely wondering what sort of pistol it was meant to represent. I feel that the more commonplace the visual representation of a handgun in a non-negative light, in mass media, the less opportunity for handguns to be so demonized unfairly by certain sectors. After all, how many parts of your country, technically allowing open carry, are now virtually anti-open carry, just because the sight of an openly-carried gun has become unfamiliar and alarming to the uninitiated?

Yup. Full-size Glock.
You know, that is probably the only episode of Friends I would force myself to watch. I am so blessed that I have only seen about 90sec of Seinfeld and 25sec or so of Friends. Truely blessed. I wish I had the brain cells that were killed off from those 115sec of "Must Not See TV" though.

I concur that from the grip angle and shading that the weapons is some sort of polymer frame mode. As GLOCK is notorious among neophytes and semi-educated (such as HW producers) it is the only logical choice. This is a shame as bee_u_tee_ful HGs such as Browning .380 have SH made for it.

A Glock? It should have been Courtney Cox and Lox?
