Just this morning there was a robbery in Stavanger.
One police officer was killed in the robbery. ![]() The robbers used HG G3's and probably MP-5's and riddeled the whole area with bullets. The robbers were also equipped with bullet proof vests and gas masks, and used CS gass in the streets to keep the police at a distance. The robbers first placed a burning truck in the enterance to the police station. Read more HERE

Noticed this morning and was shocked to see the news , I live in Stavanger and I know where it is.
Though no I am not home. In the area where the robbery happened there is usually alot of people going through I`m very happy that no civilans got wounded/killed since the robbers actually shot out from their cars as they fled. I guess now there will be another debate regarding having armed police in Norway. At first I didn`t see the need of it but the ORGANIZED crime is getting more proffesional and raw now so my mind is about to change. I don`t know at this point if anyone I know was at the scene, a friend of mine has a father who is a cop , and since one police officer was shot I`m worried. I just read that the police officer that was shot and killed by a robber who held a civilian police officer as a hostage at the same time. A robber was also wounded during the fire exchange. UPDATE : Well according to an eye-witness account I just read then the robbers also opened fire towards civilans deliberatly....

What gets me is how well-equipped these guys were. G3s, MP5s, body armor, CS canisters, a burning truck to block the police...seems like a lot of money involved to steal from what is essentially a bank.
I really hope they catch the criminals - shooting at random passersby just isn't kosher.

Its the banks distribution central. It is where the bank keeps their money. This has been a prime target at several robberies in the past, but that has always been in Oslo. Guess they have upgraded the security in Oslo now, so the robbers go for softer targets.

Arming the police officers is not going to deal with this type of crime. This will take heavily armed ,well trained SWAT teams. I hope they can put that group in jail very quickly.

It seems that a number of responding policemen were armed (obviously, even in a land where the police don't normally carry, they have backup in the armory). It would seem that the police were underpowered with their MP-5's as the robbers had G-3's: distance became a factor.
I'll keep an eye on more info from the neighbors. Anyone local with better already? FD, G-3 rifles point towards the Norwegian military as the (quite certainly involuntary) source.

" To be fair, the article claims that the police did return fire, so at least one of the officers involved was armed. "
Yes but in a general sence as in armed carrying a sidearm on duty...which in Norway they don`t . And as for the robbery I think they got away with quite a load. Eye-witness accounts say they saw several bags being loaded into a car. All roads etc have been blocked , hope they will get them. I actually might know the son of the police officer that got killed , no name out yet only the fact that he was in his 50`s. |

Well actually people thought it was some kind of excersice prior to the moment where the robbers opened fire, towards the police so it is not totally uncalled for.
Actually people just passed by normally in the beginning I`ve read. |

Actually, several eye witnesses to the actual robbery didn't have a clue! They told papers how they saw people wearing all that apparel shooting (it lasted for 15-20 minutes, in plain view, right in the middle of the city) and thought to themselves "it must be a police exercise"... until they noticed that they weren't shooting blanks. Anyhow, I don't think the police would conduct exercises in quite this manner in Norway either.
Check the photos at Aftenposten . Spent brass and a deformed bullet. Someone mentioned MP-5's in 10mm being used. Can someone local confirm this? BTW, the "commando car" mentioned in Aftenposten's site was a bad translation. I'd guess that was a kind of a chief's or supervisor's unit.

This act reminds me of the French jailbreak from last year, when the BGs came in with a helicopter and an entry team to break a guy out. It appears European criminal gangs do not skimp on the hardware, or the planning. Our criminals stateside aren't usually as flashy.

I noticed that the "read more here" article had several typographic errors in it, and look, they even mispelled "Police" on the truck! (ha.ha)
That takes a big set of _________ to try something like that. Interesting article. Movie follows.

What load in the .38? The case looks like a lot of .38 wadcutter cases do. Seems like an odd combination. .38 special revolver and 9mm subgun. Vewy, vewy intewesting.
