A boy and his deer.[WARNING] (Deceased deer pic)
A little buddy of mine got his first deer yesterday. Him and my father-in-law brought it over to our house to skin and hang over night. He is 10 years old. The kid did excellent for his first time. I just thought I would brag a bit.

I guess that Dianne, Chucky, Teddy, and John are wrong. You CAN hunt with an AK!

Is that a rifle derived from an evil assault weapon being used to hunt deer? Impossible! Kerry said no one used such things to hunt deer! So, this is clearly a photoshopped image.
Beautiful buck by the way. |

Hey, great job! That deceased deer looks to be a great first. And taking time to stop and smell the roses, too.
I always felt rifles chambered in 7.62x39 are among the finest for young hunters. Do you know what kind of ammunition he was using; it certainly appears to have worked. Thanks for the pic (and for your part in keeping the heritage of hunting alive).

I believe the round was a Wolf softpoint. There was definately some decent expansion from the look of the exit wound. The deer was shot a bit high and I believe that the shock caused the deer to be paralized.

OH NO!! RUN, BAMBI! IT'S MAN!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, that's a very lucky young man with a dad and friends who care enough about him to spend time hunting. The libs, on the other hand, are so busy protesting global warming that they've hired Rosalita to raise their brats. Meanwhile, little Johnny, in order to get some attention from his fruitcake parents (who, themselves, spend their spare time smoking dope and watching re-runs of Saturday Night Live) has picked up a really nasty meth habit. |

Cool. The first one is the one he'll always remember. Consider getting that picture framed.

Great Job!!
But . . . . but . . . . but
Hollyweird and John Kerry told me there was no legitimate use for AK-47s How could this be??????? In any case, great job dad and great job son. I hope my son's first is as big and his choice of firearm is as well suited. FWIW, I posted this at my blog. Hope you don't mind.

That’s a fine bag for any hunter. Congratulations to young Hawkeye and kudos to the adults who are starting him out right.

Are you sure he shot the deer?
The VPC tells me that even the sight of an AK47 will paralize both game and human alike, causing some to even expire due to heart failure out of fear. I hope my first deer looks that nice, I just had my first night of hunter safety class yesterday. Kharn |

clipse: You said that the deer was hit a bit high-- how many times was it shot? (Making a bet with self that the answer is "One.")
I've always liked the results of shots that went too high. The shock to the spinal process causes impressive incapacitation similar to brain shots, but with a more stable, larger kill zone target. Any details on the distance, type of shot (moving or standing), and the deer's immediate reaction to the shot? Was a follow-up needed? How much did it weigh on the hoof, approximately? Terrain? Region? And tell your young friend that, as a seasoned deer hunter of 33 years and some 20 deer seasons with some good bucks under my belt, I think that's a mighty fine buck he took. As my game bag is empty this season, I can't help but feel jealous!

The terrain was very flat with weeds about 3 feet tall. The buck was on the move but not in a hurry. Just a stride. The buck was about 50 yards out and shot broadside a little high. The buck stopped and dropped right where he stood. It laid there for a couple seconds then kicked, then died. No follow up shot needed.
My first dear was a bit similar. I shot high with my 8mm mauser. The deer dropped right then and there. No follow up needed. It was shot in Northwest Missouri. As for the weight I would have to said between 200-250lbs. It was a big bodied deer for the antler size. |

That's a big damn deer! Wow!
![]() Good report. Sounds like the boy did wonderfully. Please send him this Texas deer hunter's sincere congratulations. [Hm. Now that's odd. The young hunter was using a semi-auto rifle that I hear called an "assault rifle," but failed to spray a barrage of lead at the deer. It actually sounds like he fired a controlled careful shot. But, to believe this would be to accept that a responsible hunter is a responsible hunter, regardless of what he carries into the field. But... but... this flies in the face of what I'm being told by Feinstein/VPC/BradyBunch/Etc...]
