I learned something new today.

Lewis and Clarke carried an air rifle with them on their expedition.

Sorry I didn't see your thread before, hard to imagine that someone had made an air rifle in that era.

One of the guys I shoot with had a friend come out to the range with an air rifle that used a scuba tank. It was very accurate and deadly to paper targets at 100 yards. Can't imagine what it would cost for someone to make a copy of one of those.

Any decent metal fabrication shop could make copies by the hundreds.

IIRC the L&C air rifle had roughly the same amount of energy as a hot load .357 mag. it was mentioned it dave kopel's "a world without guns", a good read if you havent read it.
