30 rounders.

Get really good with the rifle...e.g., be able to command any terrain 300 yards in any direction, from any position.

Then think about if you really want to spend your money on a BetaC.

I have a couple of 40 rounders that work great. The only drawback might be how far the mag sticks down, but not much further than a 30 rounder.

Anyone know who sells USA mags? I haven't seen them lately.

once you have a good sized collection (at least 10) then get a beta C.

that guy's ... uh.... magazine ... is bent !

Everything at the gun show today was expensive... 30 rounders, 20 rounders, beta mags, ammo....

GUYS - If you're going to sell at a gun show, and your prices are higher than my dealer, guess what... I'm going to travel the extra distance to my dealer...

So far I have 2 factory FNC 30 rounders, 3 AR 30 rounders and those fancy followers. I just need a few more to accomodate a warm up session at the range...

30 round mags work. we know this. i recommend that you keep buying them until s/o tells you to stop. of course, you have to make sure you have enough ammo to fill the mags at all times though, right?

on beta-c mags: i have no personal experience with them but i talked to a soldier who said he tested them for his unit and found them to be less reliable than the 30 round version. even if you assume the same reliability as a 30 round mag, consider that if a failure occurs with a 30 round mag you lose a maximum of 30 rounds on the ground, with a c-mag you can lose 100 rounds all at once. that can seriously cut into your ammo load-out. at about $25 dollars a piece, you could buy 10 30 round mags for the price of one 100 round mag. that's three times the total capacity.

My dealer has the green follower AR mags for 18 / mag - right about what I can get them for shipped... I'm leaning towards stocking up on 30 rounders first.

I've considered a Beta C mag,but my AR is is a dedicated short, easy handling carbine. The beta mags are too bulky IMO and would interfere with the fast hadling capabilities of the rifle. In my opinion, carrying several proven 30 rounders would suit me better.

Trouble with the C-mags is that they're prima-donnas. Follow the instructions exactly to the letter. Anything else and you risk failure that could be fatal. 30 rounders are easier to use and more user-proof. C-mags should be reserved for special purposes.

Go With What Works First

I vote 30 rounders because if there is a failure somewhere when you get the firearm, you don't want to be scratching your head and trying to decide whether it's the ammo, the "tight Chamber" or the magazine. After you shoot it and are confident it works, then you can try a different type of magazine.
