CMP 1903A3s all gone

They had 1,000 not long ago but when the word got out they were in short supply, they went fast. I got mine last month. They still have 1903s though.

From the moderator of the CMP forum:

"We have less than 100 M1903A3 rifles remaining - and still a basket full of mail orders to open. Best guess is that we have enough M1903A3s to fill orders already received - but will probably not have enough to fill any other orders. We will email, call, or contact via letter those customers whose orders we cannot fill. Please give us till the end of the year before following up to see whether or not we will be able to fill your order."

Man, glad I got my 03 MKI when I did. I see them going the way of the A3 before long. Wish I had picked up an A3 too.

What will become of the CMP when they are out of Garands?

Will they simply exist only to sell occasionally found Garands in the wrapper to people with far too much money to waste?

http://www.odcmp.com/about_us.htm

Quote:
The CMP was created by the U.S. Congress. The original purpose was to provide civilians an opportunity to learn and practice marksmanship skills so they would be skilled marksmen if later called on to serve the U.S. military. Over the years the emphasis of the program shifted to focus on youth development through marksmanship.
Selling firearms is simply a method for the CMP to obtain monies to fund marksmanship programs. The CMP is not a business focused on simply selling rifles.

So even after the supply of Garands are gone, they will continue to run the National Matches at Camp Perry, the Western Games at Pendleton, and the other various junior programs and matches that they sponsor.

From the looks of their M1 offerings as compared to as recently as 2 years ago, it looks like M1s won't last too long either.

They are listing them as "sold out" now on their website. I got mine yesterday and am very happy. I have a thread on the jouster site with some pics. I sent in another order day after Thanksgiving....wonder if that one makes the cut??

Glad I got mine earlier this year. Might have to consider an 03 as well.

I got one coming in today. I picked it out at the CMP Western Games last month. I was thinking about getting two, but opted to only get one. Oh well.

Glad I got mine when I did (last year) and an M1 the year before that. If I wasn't looking into an AR, I would have went for another 03A3 when word got out they were seeing the end. I'm still torn between the AR and the desire to get another M1.

Damn! I ordered an -A3 last month, and it came in two days ago. I hadn't planned to order, but when I saw that 'last 1000' notice...

I'm really glad I did

You and a bunch of other folks including me. I think it was late Sept. this year, the estimate was a one year's supply. Then in mid-Oct., it was announced that there were 1,000 left and they would last about 6 months. And 45 days later they're all shipped out or spoken for.

Let this be a lesson to those putting off purchasing a Garand or 1903, once the word gets out the supply is low, orders start pouring in at many, many times the usual rate.

To those who didn't get one when the getting was good, I say -- come over and look at both of mine.

I was considering picking up an -03A3 from the CMP, but I did not, as I stumbled across a guy selling a beautiful, all-correct one for about $50 more than the CMP was charging at the time for their cosmo-soaked ones. That was a no-brainer.

Not dissing the CMP, I have a CMP Dane garand...just noting that I left one more -03A3 for you guys to snatch up.

Dangit...I just sent in my order on Monday...I had to wait for my GCS membership to hit their files. Bother.

Now, when they call, should I ask for one of the 03s, or just tell them to cancel the order completely and start shopping on my own...decision, decisions...

Lang, I'd just go for something else. Most of the MKI's had decent, new barrels on them when I was digging through the North Store.

EDIT: Heck, I'd be tempted to put in an order for these: http://auction.odcmp.com/auctions/detail.asp?id=129

What do you plan to do with your Springfield? If you simply want it as a collector's piece, the M1903 is at least as desirable as an '03A3. If you plan to shoot it at the range, the '03 is as good a shooter as the '03A3. If you plan to hunt with it, the '03A3 sights are better suited for that -- but that doesn't mean you can't use the '03.

If you plan to "sporterize" it -- a pox on you!

I wouldn't be surprised if the North Store has some when you go. They've got them in stock as of today anyhow.

Whew! I just got mine.

Man, I'm glad I got my stuff together and slipped in under the wire. It's an absolute beauty too.

Now, I need to get a 1903....

Good going. I just finished putting another coat of Tung Oil on mine that I got last month. I'm trying to do this one right and get it looking great. I totally disassembled and have cleaned all the cosmoline except the barrel.

I swore this is my last milsurp rifle (K98, M1, No.1 Mk. 3) but there's something about hearing that there will be no more available (at a reasonable price anyway) to get you to buy.

Actually, it'd be a collector's shooting piece. I don't have anything yet that's so nice/fragile that it just hangs out in the safe.

OK, maybe I'm not planning on shooting the Ithaca 1911A1 but that's it. I was thinking about finding myself a box of old GI .45 ball, and putting the pistol and ammo in a case with a tag "In case of national emergency break glass"

Oh, here's the one I just received yesterday:

Lots of cleaning for me during the next couple weeks.

Measures under a 4 for the throat and right at 2 for the muzzle.
