IPSC rules questions

I am a new IPSC shooter. I've been shooting my Glock in Production. I was thinking of trying my 1911 this weekend.

1. I understand you have to keep your finger off the trigger while moving. Do you have to put the safety on, too? I can't find this addressed anywhere in the rules. Maybe the answer to this is really obvious, but I have no experience with the 1911 in competition and I guess I failed to observe what the other shooters do with their 1911s.

2. I'm only classified in Production. Can I shoot in Limited 10 anyway so I get some benefit from shooting a major caliber?

I am not an expert but I have been in 3 pistol and two 3 gun matches. While you are moving from target to target your finger must be out of the trigger guard and you do not have to put the safety on. After you are done shooting the course of fire the RO will ask you if you are finished, if so indicate so and drop your mag, clear the chamber and show it to RO, hammer down, safe the weapon and holster it. I'm sure there are alot more qualified shooters out there that can add to this.

2. Yes.

You can get classified in as many divisions as you please. You could shoot your production gear in L10 too if you didn't mind the disadvantage that minor puts you in. Trigger out of guard while reloading and while moving unless shooting while moving. No safety needed. Everything will be the same commands for you, the only difference I can think of is put the safety on BEFORE you holster and nobody will make silly ...slide forward, sproinger down, and holster" jokes now, you have a real hammer to drop.

I shoot both, I don't see the Glock v. 1911 fuss, they are remarkably similar to me in controls and ergonomics.
