More testing with 4227. Greg got little over 1500 fps in
3" plastic with 870 gr slug using 74-75 gr of 4227.
I did the same. This compares to much lighter
REM Buckhammer slug with more speed. Almost all
the way through 5 ft bundle hardwood boards.
I have Mossy 695 as well as GEHA 12 gauge
to put heavy rifled barrels on. And my 87.
Will be checking Mossy 395
for a guy who wants to put on
a heavy barrel. Ed

Holey Moley - that equates to about 4,300 ft lbs - shucks!! I am trying to imagine recoil with that near 2 ounce 'pill'!!!

P95Carry-- I have NEF weighted and thumbhole stock
so recoil is about like 2 oz duck load in a lighter gun.
We put on 1 5/8 inch recoil pad.
Now recoil gets interesting when we fire long case
( it also takes 3.85" brass case) in NEF
with same 870gr, at 2000 fps, but even little guys here
handle it.Ed

rifled barrel for it. It has a recoil plate
like Rem/Sav, and two rear bolt lugs..Ed

Read a report that H & H is going to
make Paradox rifle/shotguns again.Big bore
mania is catching on.Be able to use
shot and slugs, and with newer alloy
barrels, they'd be hairy like the guns Rob and
I have set up. Ed

I tested in NEF 3' cases, Alliant 2400 with
small primers, Fired ok at 75 deg but when
case cooled there was majority of misfires
and squib loads. Don't reccomend it, not reliable.

In the future I will be putting heavy rifled 12ga
barrels on 87 levergun, 695 Mossberg bolt action,
Mauser GEHA bolt action, a Greener-Martini
12ga action, and the 28GA FH in something as well
as testing slugs and loads. Would it be possible to
move this thread to the shotgun forum as that is
where a lot of the research I want share would
apply. Could it moved and keep the tally
of posts and views intact? Someone help..Ed.

No wheels yet. Was jokingly thinking if I had a Lahti
anti tank rifle, the one with sled runners on it,
I could put a hairy 12ga barrel on it. Ed.

Yes! Clearly, we need a revolving chamber 12 Ga. FH rifle. Perhaps in a pump action.

outlaw it. Even have looked into 12ga Saiga to

Mike- This is what Russians have for riot control. Tula 4bore
loaded with rubber balls. This is Big Al's in Delaware.
It would make good action for heavy barreled
12ga FH. Ed

Mike- I don't think any are available, Al wouldn't sell.
There was only a few imported, with no ammo. And I
helped Al and others get some brass cases made,
by Rocky Mtn Cartridge. I had the bolt and
barrel in my hand when I helped get chamber
dimensions.It used a short 3" plastic or
paper case. reason for being short for a 4bore was it
was loaded light as the barrel is relatively thin for
that big a bore. And it was a small 4bore at .938".
Not .998" like the ones we are working on.
The 4 lug bolt is strong and locks in
end of the barrel, and it could work full pressures with
a heavy 12ga barrel.Ed

would handle my 700.It is Cole,
with a strong top lock and real wide
strong extractor.Ed

3.5" 12ga plastic in NEF, which has
lengthened chamber, 600gr hard slug
with 105 gr of 4227, got 2100 fps. That
is 5800 ft lbs with plastic cases- long ones
to get extra powder for power and extra
wads to keep peak pressures down.
How about that.Ed

mrsig-- We just lengthened chamber on NEF Ultra Slug 12ga.
It has a real thick barrel. Chamber takes them all up to
our 3.85" long brass case. I have tried to get factory to
do long barrels, but no luck. We weighted gun to 15 lbs
also , and a big thick pad. Ed

Tested 3.5" plastic cases in NEF, small
primers. My chamber is long for our
long brass case, so they work fine.....
600 gr slug, 180 gr, 7383 surplus,
got 2100 fps. That's 5800 ft lbs from 12ga
plastic shotgun cases.With 7383 case base
expands only half of what 4227 load does.Ed
