Ballistic gelatin test results - .38 Special

.38 Special 110 grain Cor-Bon DPX

Calibration = 9.0 ± 0.05cm BB penetration at 581 ± 0.500 ft/sec.

Firearm was .38 Special revolver with 1.9” long barrel.

Shot 1 penetrated 14.2 ± 0.031”. 0.482 ± 0.0005” average diameter. Impact velocity = 1069 ± 0.500 ft/sec.

Shot 2 penetrated 13.1 ± 0.031”. Bullet partially expanded to 0.429 ± 0.0005” average diameter. Impact velocity = 1013 ± 0.500 ft/sec.

Shot 3 penetrated 12.6 ± 0.031”. 0.487 ± 0.0005” average diameter. Impact velocity = 1065 ± 0.500 ft/sec.

Shot 4 penetrated 13.3 ± 0.031” and exited the side of the block. Bullet was not recovered. Impact velocity = 1072 ± 0.500 ft/sec.

Shot 5 penetrated 12.6 ± 0.031”. 0.498 ± 0.0005” average diameter. Impact velocity = 1083 ± 0.500 ft/sec.
