PA voters contact your State Rep's NOW!!

I just want to remind everyone that next Tuesday the 26th of September our legislature will me meeting in the state Capitol. One of the topics that will most likley be on the agenda will be HB2231 "Castle Doctrine".

Please everyone call, email, or write your state Rep and let them know you want HB2231 fully supported. Let your Rep know you should not have to fear protecting you or your loved ones in an act of self defense simply because most DA's try to always try to find some small reed to grasp at to find an argument that opportunity to flee or preclude was available. Nor do you wish to fear that the criminal can file a civil action against you for simply protecting yourself or loved one, this is just wrong.

This is our chance now here in Pennsylvania to do something and lets not allow it to slip through our fingers. We have less than seven days to make calls so please be proactive.

It's getting late for snail mail to hit, I recommend faxes.

It's fast, and they have it on paper!

Just to add to what I posted above HB2231 "Castle Doctrine" is in the House Judiciary Committe since November 2005 and it will go stale this November if we don't do our jobs of contacting our State House Reps. To make this a little easier for everyone I am putting the link up for the PA House and you can enter your zip code in the upper right and this will lead you to both your House and Senate Rep. Please email your House Rep. http://www.house.state.pa.us/

thpa,

Thanks for the info; I'll send out some faxes when I get home. Anyone know if this bill protects from lawsuits by the criminal/ criminal's family against a legal act of self-defense?

Would you mind if I copied your post and posted it to other forums?

Yes it does.

1 Amending Titles 18 (Crimes and Offenses) and 42 (Judiciary and
2 Judicial Procedure) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
3 Statutes, further providing, in general principles of
4 justification, for definitions, for use of force in self-
5 protection and for use of force for the protection of other
6 persons; and providing for civil immunity for use of force.

Here is the link if you want to read it yourself.

DirksterG30 and anyone else who wants to copy and paste my posts please feel free to do so. Time is running out, we need to get the word out to all. I beleive this would be one of the best changes in gun law PA has seen in a while. This is the only way to get things like this moving. Make our legislators hear us loud and clear and by many.

Please post anywhere you feel it will get attention. Thanks for the help in helping the gun cause.

Gun bills up for consideration

• HB 871: Creates a statewide limit of handgun purchases to one a month; gun dealers, antique collectors and law enforcement exempt.

• HB 872: Permits city of Philadelphia to enact an ordinance limiting handgun purchases to one per 30 days, subject to voter approval.

• HB 764: Bans sale or ownership of assault weapons, except for those who already own such weapons, provided they pass a background check and safely store and register weapons.

• HB 873: Mandatory police tracing of firearms illegally possesed by anyone under 21, through National Tracing Center of Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

• HB 2736, 2775: Creates a witness relocation program within state attorney general's office.

. . . Tuesday is the day when the rising tide of angry voices over violent crime will finally echo in Harrisburg.

Dozens of anti-gun activists, politicians and concerned citizens sick of the bloodshed are looking toward that day, when they will hold a massive rally to urge lawmakers to finally come up with a sensible solution to gun violence. . . .

About 96 proposals are expected to be introduced at the session, which state Rep. Dwight Evans said he hoped would be "a fruitful, open discussion." . . .

When the demonstrators arrive, they will be joined by a fleet of pols touting an anti-gun message. Sources said Mayor Street has invited an all-star cast of mayors to join him at a 2 p.m. press conference Tuesday in the Capitol rotunda.

Sources said Street's guests are expected to include New York's Michael Bloomberg, Scranton's Chris Dougherty, Allentown's Roy Afflerbach, Reading's Tom McMahon, Trenton's Douglas Palmer and Newark's Cory Booker. . . .

Those proposals are all anti gun proposals!

Why would a state like PA consider a bunch of anti gun proposals??

It is the same thing as many other states in our area. You have a couple of big cities, or one really big city and several smaller ones full of people. Those people span the spectrum, although they tend to the left, evidenced by the way they vote. Out in the more rural areas, we have lots more of the conservative types, but not enough to overwhelm what the cities do all the time. That is one of the reasons we are stuck with senators like Arlen Specter.

But now we have a governor who used to be the mayor of Philly, and we have a mayor in Philly who is probably even worse than his predecessor. Add in a bunch of other liberal gun grabbers from other urban areas, and we have enough people to make the rest of us miserable with their constant assault on our rights.

Many more liberals in the far eastern portion of the state...
and with the philly media playing up the murder numbers, a one-sided story is all you hear on the local news...the TV stations even have theme music and graphics when another murder happens...i hear the theme music, i know an anti- story is on the way...

If I remember right there was a compromise early in the year to have a gun discussion day in the state capitol in exchange for something to do with the budget. I hope since the republicans control the house in PA they will just let the Antis cry for a day and leave it at that.

Wow. They're going for the shotgun approach.

Put so many anti-gun proposals on the table that some have to get through for the sake of "compromise." Any legislator who opposes all of the measures is an evil tool of the NRA who uses babies for plinking. Nasty, tricksy, liberals.

Philadelphians Push For Gun Control In Harrisburg

Philadelphians Push For Gun Control In Harrisburg

(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA The push for tougher gun laws heads to Harrisburg Tuesday as hundreds supporters across the state board buses en to a rally. Among those attending the rally is a mother who lost her five-year-old daughter to a stray bullet only two days ago.

Alisha Corley's daughter Cashae Rivers was struck and killed by a stray bullet following a shootout on 34th and Huntington Streets Sunday morning. Lawmakers are holding a special session to address hand gun control.

The mourning mother is joining the crowd traveling to Harrisburg with a petition urging state legislators to allow for stricter gun legislation within the city.

"We need more laws in Philadelphia. We need more laws in Philadelphia. These guns gots to get off the streets," said Corley.

Limiting hand guns sales to one a month, banning military assault type weapons and requiring owners of guns that are lost or stolen to report them within 24 hours, are among items on a bill to before the Pennsylvania legislator.

Mayor Street will join other Philadelphians lobbying for tougher gun laws.

"Unless we take some significant steps to reduce the ease in which people get guns and the number of guns on the streets, we will continue to have these tragedies," said Mayor Street.

Men United for a Better Philadelphia walked more than 100 miles to Harrisburg and Mother United through Tragedy will carry petitions with thousands of signatures demanding the limit of gun sales.

"We need to have stricter gun laws," says Shirley Boggs with Mothers United through Tragedy.

Greg Isabella, owner of The Firing Line gun shop, feels existing laws are not being enforced.

"They will not enforce Act 15. And that's what the state's legislator has to look at, why the city will not enforce Act 15," said Isabella.

In a state full of hunters, gun control is not a popular issue. But with the murder rate climbing to 300, community activists say the time is now.

what's Act 15?

I don't know that that refers to, but I DO know that:

Every single handgun sale (new or used) in PA must be routed through a gun shop so that:

1) the prosepective buyer goes through a state police background check (aka "licensing")

and then

2) the transfer of ownership is recorded by the state police (aka "registration").

So, PA already has the same laws as NJ (i.e, "handgun licensing and registration")
