SKS questions- folding stock

I just traded some bike parts for a chinese sks. Its very clean, hardly shot, good barrel, not so hot trigger, and has a black folding (maybe) stock. It looks like the ATN ultra lite stock, but the only markings on it say "pat pending" and it looks like it will actually fold. However I think theres a catch or screw I'm not seeing because it wont fold. It has the same grip as the combat exchange model described on the simonov.net web page. Can someone tell me how to fold it w/out busting something? Also, anyone have a link to dissassembly instructions? Thanks!

www.tapco.com sells a kit to make a folding stock a fixed stock so its legal. If someone has put one of those kits in to make it a legal fixed stock that may be why it won't fold.

ATI sells a sporter stock that looks like the folding stock, but the hinge mechanism is rigged so that it won't fold. I gots one on the money pit. Tapco sells the original part to replace the hinge in the folding stock, and this can be used to turn the sporter into a folder. This is also a big no-no according to the BATF boys. I bought the part for mine along with spike bayonet so I could put them on to take a picture, but then I took them off and put them away. I don't need the BATF knocking at my door.

Just kidding, everyone knows the BATF never knocks.

It's been a while since I last had mine on, but I think you will find a button that will release the catch when it's pushed in. If it doesn'e push in or nothing happens when it's pushed in, then your legit.
If it does work, buy another type stock and save that one for when the AWB sunsets.

When the AWB sunsets, a folder will still be illegal on an SKS unless you have documentation to prove in court that it was imported before '89.

Thakns everyone. Apparently this is a folder that was made non-folder. I removed a little allen key plug and I thought it would fold because it did start to hinge. CRACK! Didnt go very far before it cracked around the pivot pin. Well, it still wont fold but its still sturdy and I like the grip, so maybe I'll just put some epoxy on it.

US Parts count? Replace the piston, stock, handguard, and magazine with US parts and you're set for a pistol grip stock. The gun is now considerd a US made gun. Foreign parts are shown below. Assuming the AW ban sunsets, all you'll have to do buy one of them conversion kits to make it folding again. Note: I am not a lawyer and you should check the laws yourself.

Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings
Barrels
Bolts
Bolt carriers
Operating rods
Trigger housings
Triggers
Hammers
Sears
Disconnector
