Hello, Gents (and any ladies)!
I got tired of lurking and figured I'd join in on the fun. I'm already a member of 2 fishing forums and one political (conservative) forum. I figured I'd add this one to my library. Live down in the swamps/ marsh areas of south LA. Let the games begin! |

Intro... My name is Larry
I love guns and shooting. 45acp all the way. Being a victim of spinal stenosis and degenerative arthritis I use a walker to ambulate. I have made a commitment to get back into shooting and reloading, boy did I pick a bad time to do this, can't get a reasonable price for any shooting needs. Well that's about who I am, hope to post some interesting comments.

New to The High Road, not quite as new to guns.
I've been shooting since the late 80's. I grew up in Alaska and Northern California. Currently, I live in S. Arizona. I used to mostly be a rifle shooter, but in the last couple years have branched off to handguns, and last year obtained my CCW permit, and have been carrying for over a year now. I'm a member to some other popular gun forums, and just decided to branch out because I like the conversation. I've already seen some people I recognize, so hello to those people, and thanks for having me to the people I don't know. For the record, I carry a Glock 19 and Ruger LCR. Very happy with both guns. |

Brand new to rifles
Hey!
I'm a disabled Army veteran with 8yrs of service and deployments to Kosovo/Macedonia and Iraq x2. Served with the 101st AASLT as BN S2 NCOIC, UAV Pilot, Detainee facility mgr and MiTT team S2 Element. Spent all my 25 months in Baghdad (2007-8) and Mahmudiyah (2005-6). Since then I've been working in non-profit veterans organizations like The Mission Continues (www.missioncontinues.org) and Joining Forces (www.whitehouse.gov/joiningforces). I am now a full time student at Washington University in St. Louis. I was invited to my first Hunt this year, and possibly several trips for Elk, Moose, Deer, Doll Sheep and Grizzly later this year. So, as a first step, I bought the Savage Hog Hunter in .338 cal to take to Texas and get some legs under me. Little did I know how fascinating and complex this sport is! Before long, all the guys at Cabella's knew me by my first name. After shooting the rifle at the range, I started digging online and found a whole bunch of stuff I never knew existed about shooting. SO, I'm here to learn and to support in any way I can. I've been posting a few pics of my build here: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=704128 So, a few questions for the experts: where is a good place to start looking to understand the dynamics of shooting my rifle? What are some good sources of information regarding how to get the maximum performance out of this ugly little boom-stick. What some good habits to get in to - beyond basic maintenance? |

Interested in guns
Hello to all,
I' am 21 years old and a female soldier, serving in the Federal Armed Forces in Germany. Unfortunatley Germany has very strict gun laws, so the only ones I shoot are the P8 9x19 , HK G36 5,56x45 and the MG3 7,62 for military training. My "inexistent collection of guns" is reduced to several bajonetts and other items of the WW2 and soviet era. So, I really envy you folks for beeing allowed to bear arms. ;-) I found this forum while looking for a place where it is possible to read and learn more about gun related subjects. I have been interested in guns for a long time, starting with a huge fascination for weapons of the WW2, especially for the German and Russian ones like the K98k and Moisin Nagant. Futhermore I love all the Ak series, first of all the Ak 74 u. Besides of Russian guns, I have a huge interest for modern assault rifles, PDWs etc. I apologize for my English and hope that it won't bother the members of the forum too much. Greetings, Betty |

Hi Betty, welcome to THR, glad you are a member now, I love WW2 weapons as well, the MG-42 and MG-34, and my Holy Grail rifle as far as German rifles is the G-43, I have always wanted one but they are so expensive here in the states $2000 is average price for one
I collect alot of WW1 and WW2 guns and modern military style rifles. If you ever come to visit the states I am sure us fellow THR members would take you out for a day of shooting out on the range

New Guy!
I am a hobby shooter, love to run drills, and aspire to have a wonderful collection someday. As a recreational shooter I strive to also be prepared for defensive encounters...God forbid.
I have found this forum extremely helpful. |

Dear selector67,
Thank you very much for your kind words, I really appreciate this forum. Yes, a day on the shooting range would be wonderful! ;-) I always wanted to visit the States, but work is keeping me quite busy, at the moment. Unfortunately the G-43 is quite rare. Like the Mauser 13mm, only saw it once in reality, in Alsace, France. I worked there some time as a volunteer for restaurating a fort of the Maginot Line, was a great time. In this place, you can still find a lot of weapons/accessoires of the WW2. Unfortunatelly, all demilitarized of course ... Greetings, Betty |

Sorry, mistake from my part - renovate not restaurate -, late at night here in Germany, I should go to bed instead of reading in the forum :-)
No no, i helped the guys from the fort of Schoenenbourg to renovate some parts of the fort. There is a lot of humidity 30m belowground, so a lot of work to do. The old bunkers of the Maginot Line are constantly threaten by decay. Unfortunately, there are less and less people interested in this part of history and willing to invest time in such volunteer activity. 4 hours of sleep, uff - Greetings, Betty |

The homepage of the artillery fort of my association:
http://lignemaginot.com/ A lot information about the whole Maginot Line, the fortifications in Suisse, Chzechoslowakia, about the Vallo Alpino, Oder-Warthe-Bogen and the Westwall. And about several fortications from the WWI in Alsace and Lorraine. Unfortunately, the part translated in English is quite small. When I entered the association, I started to translate many articles into German, because there were almost only French ones. Too bad, because the site is a true encyclopedia concerning fortifications. I spent a lot of time in France visiting the whole Northern part of the Maginot Line, the majority was closed and sealed by the French Military during or shortly after Cold War. But we have very detailled cartes, construction plans and if you have some connections, it's easy to experience even today this unique system of fortification. Plus, there are other associations making an effort to renovate forts or smaller bunkers of the line. So, if you visit France or Germany near the border, one day, don't hesitate to ask me for giving some advice what to visit. ![]() Playing with the MG3: one belt is damn quickly gone and during military shooting training the ammuntion is very restricted. You receive enough to fullfill a certain shooting exercise, but that's not really what you need to have fun or gain experience with this wonderful weapon. Bitter, because I love the MG 42 and there aren't many changes between it and the MG3. Even my license plate contains MG 42. Yeah, I' am a little bit crazy.... ;-) Greetings from Germany, Betty |

HaHa, you are not crazy to have MG-42 on your license plate Betty, it just shows you are a firearms appreciator
And a nice informative website on the Maginot line, you are lucky, I would volunteer my time as well if I lived close by to the place. How do you like the G-36?

Student of Man
Howdy All, I am an Anthropology student at the University of North Texas. I am currently studying virtually mediated community. I am also an avid shooter and enjoy getting out to the range whenever possible. I am mostly into handguns right now, mostly because I can't get a hold of ammo for the CETME at prices I can afford
. The P7 and the Baby Eagle keep me pretty entertained though. I am currently in the process of doing an ethnographic research project with this website as my field site. If that peaks anyones interest please hop on over to the general forum I will soon have a thread dedicated to it there. Happy Shooting |

Hi I'm new here.
I just discovered THR while searching for information on the web. I was looking for information concerning moving (with my guns) from the CA to TX. This looks like a great place to meet and converse with like-minded folks and learn a whole lot too. Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself here. I'm looking forward to talking with everyone.

I joined a couple of weeks ago, found the site by accident. I've been hunting since I could keep up with my grandpa and dad. I bought my first shotgun (mossberg .410 bolt action) when I was twelve. Now many purchases/trades later, I'm still not finished. I've been reloading since the early eighties when I got involved in high-power. I still compete, but older eyes have made me less competitive (at least thats my story). I'm enjoying all the info and opinions.

@selector67
It was really a lot of fun to volunteer there. Unfortunately, now, I' am living in the north of Germany, moved to Hamburg. I' am from Bavaria, so that was quite close to the border, today it's difficult to go working at the Maginot Line, too far away. I like shooting with the G36 equipped with a reddot sight and a 3,5 power reticle, it's a quite accurate and light gun due to glass fibre. But the 5,56 mm NATO caliber isn't that convincing (they want to change it in the future - perhaps - bureaucracy is working slowly...). I only shoot the standard Version of the Bundeswehr. Special forces use massively modified versions, mostly of the shorter C-Version (Commando). |

Hey guys,
Darrin from the Panhandle of Florida, aka L.A. (Lower Alabama). Around Destin, Ft. Walton Beach, etc. Nice place to be. Former NRA child marksman, .22 LR target stuff. Quit doing that at about 12 years old, sold the long-neglected rifle at about 23 years old, and never touched another gun until I got the bug for a handgun last summer. Bought an FNH FNX-9 two-tone. Love it! ![]() I'm an Air Traffic Controller at the most complex ATC facility in the world, Eglin Radar Control Facility. I did 20+ years USAF then retired into a civilian position here; I got very lucky. --Thought I had job security working for the government, until Sequester. Looking at some really idiotic cutbacks around there...amazing how dumb the leadership is. I'm not against smaller government, but the way they are doing this is crazy. And losing ~25% of my paycheck really sucks too! ![]() Looking forward to reading some threads around here! ___________________________________ iPad & TapaTalk HD |
