Just doing his part for Remington, they'll probably have their own AR in a few years...just too much money in it

Well, if you scroll down a little and check out the comments, they start hammering him after a few.

I'm appalled at that article from someone who should know better. To call your fellow hunters "terrorists" because their choice of hunting equipment happens to have a politically incorrect appearance is wrong on so many levels.

Freedom of speech, even if we don't agree with him. When I was at H&K Armorer's School, I read a letter in the employee lunch room that described how one hunter wounded a bear which fled into some pretty inaccessible area. As it was getting dark, he decided not to pursue but came back the next day to finish it with his HK-91. Good thing too as it took multiple rounds to put the animal down. He said he was glad he had the HK and that but for that gun, the bear would have prevailed.

Outside of the fact that he comes off as some traditionalist/elitist snob who's had his head in the sand for some time, I can understand his point. There are some states that do not allow semi-auto's for hunting. I think it ties into the idea that if you can't hit the critter with the first shot then you need to just stay home. Never mind that these guys usually have no argument with using pump or lever action rifles for hunting. With a little practice you can cycle those rifles almost as fast as a semi-auto, thus exposing the hypocrisy behind the whole notion.

If he only likes the traditional firearms, maybe we should take all his scopes and smokeless powder away? I am very disappointed in Outdoor Life.

I'm a hunter and will pretty much discount whatever Zumbo says from now on. You just made Dave Petzal seem intelligent.
There are few bolt guns that are as intrinsically accurate as an AR. It's actually, to me, the ideal coyote gun, mine is outfitted with a flattop and a Nikon scope. Great varmint outfit for $600. I've a friend who spends a lot of time in Montana, claims there are AR's in the back windows where 30-30's used to be. |

Yup, he's got a right to his opinion and so do I. I'm appalled at his attitude and by his opinion. It's my opinion that he should be banned from the prairies and woods. (Or praries as spelled by him.)

There are some very accurate military type semi autos made in U.S.A. . Im temped to own a semi auto . But I do not understand why anyone would get a military or sporting firearm made in a commie country .The commies are provideing arms and ammo to people who now are killing our boys over seas. The more purchased by Americans allows the commies to sell to others for less.

Freedom of speech allows him to perpetuate his nonsense and freedom of speech allows me to call him any name I choose. In the words of a Warner Brother staple.....what a maroooon.

Well, Zumbo ain't Nugent. He ain't trying to be.
Hey... Does this mean Zumbo don't like the thought of somebody huntin' with a Garand? Because if it's legal in Alabama with the 8rd en blocs (and my SP handloads), I'm liable to. And I also recall a guy came on American Rifleman TV... he's a Vietnam Vet and was showing off his M1A which he said is both his deer rifle (w/ 5rd mag) AND his Homeland Security rifle (w/ 20rd mags). Does Zumbo have a problem with him too? Hey, ideally, deer hunting is "one shot, one kill". That's the basis of a humane harvest. Us hunters know that. Would Zumbo now say we're trying to be snipers?

well think about it, why wouldnt he say that. What has remington came out with lately except for the overpriced pos 710. remington doesnt make any of those guns as most of them are imported except ars. Ars are out of my price range but i dont see why anyone wouldnt want to hunt with an ar. I have an ak and a few mil surp guns that are alot cheaper than your average remington 700(which is a nice rifle). For the same price as a 710 you can get a medium priced ak. An ak is a hell of alot more fun to shoot than a clunky bolt action 710. those guns dont even come with iron sights. Hes bashing stuff that his company doesnt sell. You can get a terrorist sks thats alot cheaper than anything remington and be just as happy if not happier.

Dumb and Dumber
He has never served his country, or he would never make such a statement. Yes AR's and AK's have a place. I like my russian made AK-47 as much as my 3 ruger 77's. To condemn a really good firearm because of appearance just goes to show us his ignorance.

What this IDIOT does not understand is that there are a group of people out there which seeks to take away EVERYTHING that goes band and he is playing right into their hands!! If you give them the what he calls "assualt weapons" guess what's next! It makes no difference if a rifle is bolt action or semi auto an accurate rifle is just that period banning them from hunting would serve no purpose. How would he know the difference since he is running his mouth about them insteag of shooting them???? A Duraganov will mess up any pararie dog as well as ANY 30-06 Remmington!!!!!

Unless you're hunting with a gun that fires 3-round bursts or is capable of full auto fire, it is hardly an assault weapon. If semi-auto is enough to make the gun an assault weapon, then a lot of duck hunters must be terrorist. If the synthetic stock is a problem for him, then I guess my Mossberg turkey gun is an assault rifle. If the problem he has is with the cartridge, then I guess I'll quit shooting my 30/06, my 45/70, my .45ACP. And what about my flintlock? After all, it was America's first assault weapon.
However, if anyone out there is unhappy with my choice of firearm, feel free to send me yours. |

What an elitist.
He will sit by and idly (or even actively participate) in banning teroristic assault rifles and airplane-piercing 50BMG, crackhead preferred Saturday Night Specials, gangbanger handguns, intimidating pump shotguns, and cowboy lever actions. By the time they come for his precision bolt action high powered sniper rifle that can kill from 600 yards away and drop a 1000lb animal, there will be no one left to defend him because he already threw everyone else under the bus. Its worse that it isn't just some chucklehead on a random blog. He is a writer for a large magazine with a wide audience. However judging by the commentary left, I would say 9/10 people are extremely pissed off. The mixed blessing surrounding the 1st Amendment is that sometimes you have to sit through headaches like this Zumbo guy. |

<Low Road removed by Art>
And he can kiss goodbye his "high power" rifles and "sniper scopes" he uses to deer hunt and the "high-capacity shotguns" that he uses on birds if applying an artificial and scary label like "assault rifle" is all it takes to dismiss a a gun as not worthy of ownership by hunters. |

Guess what I hunt with... or did I already say this once in this thread? ...a tang-sighted Winchester .30-30... the original "redneck assault rifle"... and between me and my rifle, my last deer was "one shot, one kill".

I did a quick skim. Looks like he got more than he bargained for, given the number of responses.
