The 686 - Page 29

I definitely want a 686 with a 4" barrel. I just need to save up or look out for a good deal on a used one. I just fell in love with them when I shot one during my NRA pistol class. I was extremely impressed. It will probably be my next purchase in the next two months.

Here's my two cent's worth...

My 686-4 was bought used at a recent gun show in Hickory NC. Vintage 1995 manufacture, and for home defense it sits lovingly in a bedside holster next to my wife, since I work nights half the time. She is a fine aim. Here is a link to the bed holster setup:

You all suck....I'd LOVE to own a 6" 586 or 686! I used to own a pair of beautiful 6" Model 19's, but had to sell them, sadly. 586 or 686, wouldn't matter, but I do prefer blue. As long as it had the orange ramp f. sight and white outline rear. And no Hillary Hole.

I bought a 686 7 shot recently. Very glad to be part of the club! I ordered the 4' but received the 6'. Even though they f'd up at the shop, I couldn't be happier. I love the 6', as its a range/home defense piece and there is just something wicked about a revolver this size. Even better, because of their mistake I now have an excuse to buy another!

This is my "House Gun" and occasional winter carry. That's an Old World Leather holster. (click the thumbnails below for higher rez versions)

I bought it NIB. I think I had to to order it to get the Round Butt. Can't remember what the year was but all I kept finding were square butts. And with my small hands that was a NO GO.

I have a one that I had S&W bead blast and blue.... OK its a 586 but it is a very close relative.

Smith357, that is the same holster I just bought today. It is the most comfortable paddle holster I ever tried, and it came with a belt loop attachment.

BTW, nice 586.

In the late '80s I had a 686 with 8 3/8" and adjustable front sight. Had to sell due to medical bills. Always wanted another. Then a couple of years ago I found this in a local shop. The pain is gone>

The true beauty is in the trigger. Smooth and light. I can shoot DA with this as well as my 610 in SA. In SA, you only have to think about squeezing. No real trigger movement, just apply slight pressure (about 1 1/2#). Double action is about 3#

If polish, just curious how much it takes get like that... how many coats, hours, power tool buffers?

(BTW, the rachet teeth look a little chewed up... does it affect function?)

95% done by hand polish job. Used 1200 grit, then moved to 2000 grit, then many hours with Mothers polish.

The teeth are in fine shape. What you are seeing is shadowing and glints of light from reflections.

I did use a dremel type tool on the edges of the hammer and on a few areas of the frame.

I just purchased a 686 "no dash" w/ 4" barrel. It isn't perfect, but REALLY nice. I wanted a shooter anyway! Hope you like it!
