Immediate Karma
Hmm - This Club has grown by leaps and bounds since I sold my last 39A and left the Club. Looking through my "papers" that I accumulated about this Wonder Rifle, I found a copied manual and a host of other related stuff (papers), about half inch thick pile. Most here already have all this info, but someone here might want what I have; I will mail this stuff to any one interested, just email me and I'' put it in the mail ASAP. Thanks.

Just put some Skinners on my 39A.
All I can say is, I love them! Do we still have those card shoots, ever?

Oil Change
Hey, fellow 39 addicts!
After studying for awhile I decided on a new 39a as my newest 22. So far so good, I do have one question. I tore my rifle down, cleaned it and want some opinions on oil. How much, where at? Thanks |

Welcome Dainbramage.
I run mine pretty dry most of the time. A light coat of silicone on the bearing surfaces of the bolt, the lever and internal pivot points. |

We should do something special ... Maybe we can all write something special to the thread about the 39 that day (or nearby it). |

How about celebrating the club's third year with a get together/check-in/roll call?
Post a howdy and a picture of your 39 and/or yourself (if possible). Maybe even take your 39 out for a celebratory shoot - and post pictures of that too! |

Thread Locker
I brought home a NIB 39a a couple years ago. Right away I decided to change the sights for accuracy sake. Just so happened that one of the guys at work was a degreed Gun Smith. So, not one to sqaunder a chance to maybe learn something, I brought the rifle to him and we changed out the sights. That was all fine and good and the XS Ghost Ring sights worked well but I did not like the looks of them. I R&R'd the sights to the original and just shot it alot to get good enough to stone a running grey squirrel last fall.
All was just hunky dory exempt for some thread locker clinging to the top of the receiver that I could not get off. I tried a number of ideas and then finally having to admit that I do not know everything called the manufacturer of the stuff. They said the easiest way to get it off was to SCRAPE it off with razor blade! With a bit of a tremble in my voice from the thought I asked for another solution. The next idea was Acetone (ain't got none) next! After the acetone came rubbing alcohol (got that). So, I started the proccess of applying the alcohol and reaplying the alcohol and reapplying the alcohol until my patience was shot and I scraped it off with my Buck Knife. I was more careful than a nerosurgeon on the discovery channel. After I had scraped down to the finish, I went back to the alcohol and finshed it up. After the intense operation was complete I applied some oil to the area. I think the alcohol soak helped to soften the stuff a bit, when I scraped it it came up fairly well. I probably would not have tried this without having a fixture to hold the rifle perfectly still as the chance of a mishap would increase if you were trying to hold the rifle still and scrape at the same time. Just thought this might be of some value to others. |

Good idea, Mo.
Club birth date is March 11, 2007, 05:29 pm PST. We'll start our celebration around that date/time - next Thursday, though I'll bet the party will start early and go late.

39A 1978 Rear Sight
Just picked up,a mint used 1978 39A. About the only wear is to the left side of the hammer.Otherwise, perfect.
The issue I have is that the rear folding sight is tilted a little to the rear. Is this normal? If not can it be fixed? Last edited by flusher; March 8, 2010 at 08:43 AM. |

Per your other post, its normal and is intended to eliminate glare on the sight blade.

DainBramage;
Acetone is most easily found as: Fingernail polish remover. If you are in any way shape or form associating with a female, there's some in the house, I guarantee it. 900F

Perwyo,
1965. Marlin produced some excellent rifles that year. Fine Vintage. |

Hello everybody,
I am a fresh new owner of a 1982 (s/n starts with 18...) 39M! Bought a few boxes of SR and LRs and will be plinking in the next day or so. I have never owned a rifle, so want to first know my way around it. I did not get a manual so would need some pointers. Is there a link page that can point me in the right direction? I notice that there is no safety, as indicated in the pdf manual available through Marlin... Thanks, in advance... Sid |

I have a Lyman Receiver Sight Model 66MC that fits your 39A. I bought in 2006, had our gunsmith install, and used for one month. Had him take it off and mount a scope. My eyes are not that good for me to use. It is in the orginal plastic box with instructions. I would sell for $35.00 and I'd pay the shipping if anyone is interested. There are NO scuff marks or scratches, or dings.....it is like new!

Hey, what do you guys use as lube?
I'm thinking of using some grease on the bolt, but I wonder how much of a gooey mess that would make.

So much good activity here as we approach the club's birthday. Welcome to the new members. You'll find beverages in the fridge in the club house. |
