Although I have NOT installed it yet; I have a 'rail' for my 39a that bolts to the already drilled holes on the top of the receiver. You probably already know this--but just in case.

First post on the Marlin 39 Club thread. Back in 1966 when I enlisted in the US Army I sold my beloved Golden 39A to a neighbor who loved it as much as I did.

While the Marlin Mountie was my favorite style none were available locally when I went to buy a 22 rifle, so I went with the 24" pistol grip model anyway. I always missed that gun and regretted selling it. Was the most accurate rifle I ever owned.

Fast forward to 2013. An old gent (quite a bit older than me) walked into my LGS with a 1955 version 39A "Mountie" wanting to sell it. He is losing his eye sight can't shoot anymore and wanted it to go to a good home. A little dirty after decades in the closet, but I paid the gent, we shook hands, and I took the Mountie home. After a very thorough cleaning it is smooth and ready. Can't wait to shoot it. What a solid little rifle. Funny thing is I really wanted the Mountie version back in 1965 when I first bought my Golden 39A but the store only had the pistol grip 24" bbl version. Now all these years later I finally have the Mountie, my true love!

Sorry to be MIA so much recently, but I'm alive and kicking.

Spending a lot of time on a blade forum (focusing on some new sharp steel bushcraft tools at the moment) and starting a new company (wait ... what? somebody just shoot me now! ) so a bit preoccupied.

Glad to see y'all still haven't burned down the club house.

Nem! What's up Doc? Glad so see you checking in, wishing it was with a range report though... or better yet some intentional adventure that included your 39.

If your adventures take you west, especially during Grouse season, you know where my cabin is and there is plenty territory to roam and sharpen those skills that are becoming more important with each passing season.

Don't worry about the clubhouse. We haven't had an AUP through here in a long while. Good bunch you put together here with good taste in rifles too.

Yep, it's that way up here in Idaho. I couldn't buy .22 bullets, gun blue, or extra magazines for a little CO2 bb pistol that was bought during Christmas. I did find the gun blue at the LGS. It's getting bad.

I visited the local Cabelas and pretty much the same thing. Surprisingly there was quite a bit of 40 S&W in stock and a little bit of 38 spl (the spendy varieties). The only 22lr they had was the 60 grain Sniper Subsonic. There was some shotgun ammo, mainly for clays and fowl.

22lr is like Gold around here, only easier to trade. I could have traded $40 worth (what I paid when I bought it 6 years ago) of 22lr for a Mossberg 500. I was tempted but don't have a use for another shotgun but do have plenty of uses for the 22 ammo...

I see this "Firearmagedon" crisis as a good lesson. The mere threat of restricted supply sparked a buying frenzy. Imagine what will happen if there is some threat to the fuel or food supply chain... It's a good time to be putting back whatever extra we can these days. If its the stuff you use regularly you'll use it eventually anyway and in the long run it'll likely save you a bunch of $$.

To relate all this to the 39 Club; I'm still shooting ammo in my 39 that I paid less than $10/brick for. At normal consumption I should be able to feed it for several more years. I sure as heck production will catch up to the demand soon. I don't expect we'll see <$20 bricks of 22lr again though.

I ALMOST joined the 39a club, . . . but lost the auction I was on. I just bid on another one [looks to be a newer one, but still pre safety] that ends tomorrow night. Wish me luck! I hope to win it, then post images here.

I was in Boise yesterday. I went in the Sportsman Center and Cabella's. Neither had .22lr ammo for less than $13.95 for 50. They had lots of ammo; but most was for shotgun and blackpowder. They had a lot .17HMR; but no
.17M2 ammo. I only have .22 rifles since and one .17M2 because they're fun to shoot. I don't hunt anymore.

ETA: I just updated my sig line. The latter three links still point to threads here on THR, but the first one on blades now points to a thread about my newest blade on my home away from home - ESEE forums, where I'm spending more time these days because I'm more focused on blades at the moment than guns. Several of my THR friends have also joined over there; y'all come. (Not to take away at all from the fine discussions that I have on THR's non-firearm weapons board.)

But THR is still the place that I come most often to talk about guns, especially my 39 and 336. When I want to talk about those, I just double click my heels and say, "There's no place like home!", and am magically transported here.

Travelling in Missouri and Northern Arkansaw, people line up at WallyWorld when the truck comes in every other day and with in 2 hrs the shelves are bare no matter what comes in.
The local law enforcement academy has a 4 month wait until they get ammo for their recruit class.
One rural should I say gun shop, was charging 57.00 for 500 rounds of cheap junk. This guy is just gouging us. Hope people remember these boys.

Foiled again. The one I was hoping to win . . . went for about $175 more than I was comfortable with. I guess I may not be able to get one because if it is in the shape I want, others are more willing to pay higher prices than I am willing. I may just have to "get lucky" and find one locally. Oh well. Someday.

Orien- persistence and patience will pay. It took me several months to land a 39CL and my 1897CB eluded me for years before one turned up literally at my doorstep for $300 less than I was willing to pay...

That being said I overpaid by a good margin for a Mountie and didn't regret it one bit. Those extra dollars were quickly forgotten about and that rifle spent a lot of time at the range and in the field with me.

The first one is the tough one. Then they just start multiplying in the safe...

I sell safes for a living, and I know not only from my own experience but from literally hundreds of customers also, that you shut the door on those guns & they get reeeeal friendly in there in the dark. Hi Everybody,

While cleaning and closely inspecting my 1977 Marlin 39M today, I noticed that the ramp for the rear sight is "broken". Never noticed it before. One of the tiny "ears" is broken off the serrated, egg-shaped surface for adjusting the ramp. The rifle must have been dropped on this point some time during its life.

Of course, now that I know this, it bugs the heck out of me so I would like to replace the ramp. It is a machined part, not just a stamped part like so many ramps.

I would really appreciate it if somebody can give me the Marlin part number for this exact ramp and any suggestions on who might stock it. Do you think Marlin may still have it available?

My 56 and 77 39As. Although I have a thousand 22lr rounds on the shelf , unfortunately these days I pretty much just fondle these plinkers, wipe off the fingerprints and put them back in the locker.
