Unwanted Gun Removel Business
I am a graphic designer, so while I was waiting at the barber shop to get my haircut this morning I was looking at all the business cards on the thumbtack board. Among the many travel agencies, lawn services, and accountants cards I saw this one.
![]() I had to grab one. I am sure this guy has a nice collection. ![]() "Make your home safe"

One never knows where guns and their broods of dangerous ammunition may set up a hive. Could your residence be next?

That guy is good. We should all call him and let him know how we feel for helping to disarm people and spreading an irrational fear of guns.

All jokes about guns vs. bees aside, you really don't know for sure what he's doing. My take is that he's catering to the very tiny widow / disgruntled relative market, wherein the person had a gun owner living with them who has since moved away or passed on, and left their property there.

Yup. I 'relieved' a widow of some unwanted guns after her husband died and she just wanted them out of the house.
Got the lot for a few hundred bucks and found a gem amongst them; an open bolt RPB MAC 11 with a bunch of mags. Sold that baby for a pretty penny.

Ingenious, to say the least. I should try that.

At the risk of being accused of "preying on the elderly", that might be a good card to post in senior centers. I have been asked about getting rid of guns by several of my Mom's friends after their husbands passed on.
Stupid me, I helped them sell them for a good price after having them check with their children to make sure they didn't want them. I never considered there was a way to make money off the deal. |

I actually had that idea a while back when reading an article about a gun buy-back program. I wondered where the guns were going, and then thought that it would be smart to do one myself if I could ever find the $$ to do it.

You know what the great idea about pitching it as a service is?
You get to charge them. Why, there are safety procedures to be followed to the letter to avoid anything dangerous happening!

Thinking about this a little more...do you think you have to have some form of license to do this legally?

I'd be a little leery of buying an open bolt MAC-11 from someone without putting through the transfer tax...

You know what? If you offered people receipts for taking their guns, I bt a lot of people would bite at this. The police get called all the time to dispose of guns that people do not want. Sure, some times they're just ghetto blasters that baby's momma don't want in her house while babby's daddy is in prison, but many many times they are good guns, owned by the widow of a shooter. She doesn't want them, but she also doesn't know how to get rid of them legally and safely. I have saved many a 1911 by telling her that:
1. You can sell it legally, here's how. and 2. This gun is worth several hundred dollars, you'd be foolish to destroy it. many times they just want the responsibility of it off of their shoulders ("what if it is used in a crime?"). Taking the gun and giving them a receipt stating that they no longer own it would probably be sufficient. Mike

I plan on keeping the guns I get & not selling them so really I don't see the need for a form. I've only ever sold 1 gun & that still bothers me so I don't plan on repeating it.
