Pelican M6 Flashlight

As much as I would love to get a Surefire, the Pelican M6 is the right price. Its output is 108 lumens for an hour, and it is about half the price of a Surefire (on sale at 1 Stop Knife Shop). Check it out. http://www.1sks.com/store/pelican-m6.html

Does anyone have firsthand experience with Pelican flashlights? Are they reliable? High quality? etc... How do they compare to Surefire?

My department just issued us M-6 Pelicans. I can see no difference in brightness between the Pelican and my SF 6Z which has the P-61 lamp assembly. I am a little skeptical of the stated battery life based on light output. Pelican is claiming a full hour run time @ 108 lumens vs 20 minutes for the SF @ 120 lumens.
The dimensions of the Pelican are slightly larger than the SF, but not overly so. The knurling on the body of the light is aggressive and is unliky to be slippery. I think the tail switch on the Pelican needs a little more refinement. Compared to the SF it is kinda stiff and has little movement. The Pelican also has an adjustable beam, the SF does not. The SF's lamp assembly is hand fitted and adjusted. Probably one of the factors in it's higher price. Overall, if I need a bright light, I am as likely to reach for the Pelican as I am the SF. I currently carry the Pelican on my duty belt and the SF in a special pocket on my external vest carrier. At home, I place the Pelican next to my house gun before going to bed.
IMO both are built like tanks and you couldn't go wrong in buying either light.

I have a Pelican M6 and a Surefire 6P. One of the issues I have with the Pelican is the relative lack of threads to keep the tailcap on. To keep it out far enough to keep it from accidentally coming on leaves me with about 3/4 of a turn before the tailcap comes completely off. Not good.

Thinking it was a one-off issue, I had Pelican replace it. Same thing on the new one. That coupled with its larger size relegates it to safe duty only. I got a 6P and have not looked back since. Plus, the switch is VERY sensitive and it will come on if you put it in your pocket. I recommend spending the extra $$$ for a Surefire. you won't regret it later.

I got my SF G2 for $30. 65 lumen, 1hr. Quality is its own value

I have to agree with the 'value' comment. I have had a few Pelican lights, they are not bad and I keep a few in my glove box, but when it comes to daily carry I go with Surefire. It's what I can count on no matter where I am at and what kind of situation I am in. Spend the extra $$, because if you buy it cheap, you buy it twice.
