Shades

I need a pair of multipurpose sunglasses. The summer sun is frying my retinas, + I'm tired of 10/22 debris in the eyes.

Priorities are:

Polrization/clarity
style
comfort
price

I'll use them for fishing too.

There are tons out there. I found a pair last weekend at Outdoor World for $13. I went fishing in the Keys and didn't take any shades with me so I went shopping. Optics aren't great but polarization is polarization and for $13 you can lose them and not bat an eye.

Oakley's are a good way to go. Can you really go wrong with a brand who's motto used to be "Thermonuclear Protection"?

Oakleys are a great way to go. Variety of lenses for indoor & outdoor shooting & a great warranty/customer service in case you have problems.

Yeah Oakley's are great but when he said one of his priorities is price I don't think he meant high price.

I used to wear el-cheapos and I found that more often than not I'd not wear them because they gave me headaches because of the poor optics. Often, the optics were just to distracting for me to "forget" I had them on, so they were always an annoyance. I twisted my own arm and tried Oakleys and never looked back. They (Strike M frames) are incredibly comfy and the optics are excellent.

I recently moved and could not find my sunglasses after the move. Dunno if the ex stole them or what. I bought a pair of Smiths last night and I think I'll like them just as much as the Oakleys.

If your eyes are close to 20/20 and you are not used to wearing glasses, then you should consider paying bucks for optical clarity...otherwise you'll hate them.

FWIW, I once found a good $20 set at one of those fakedesigner tents you see at a festival. Took me an hour to find a set that was optically correct in a style that was acceptable.

My eyes are better than 20/20, and I'm not afriad to spend as much as I need to to get good glasses. But I don't want to spend more than I need to either.

, I HAVE WILEY-X'S ,ROEMER 2 . THEY HAVE 3 INTERCHANGABLE LENSES, CLEAR ,YELLOW AND DARK THEY HAVE UV PROTECTION AND A UNDISTORTED VIEW. THEY WERE AROUND $60.00 OR SO DEALER PRICE FROMK BROWNELLS. I LIKE THEM A LOT.

I have scored quality name brand glasses at extreme discount prices from stores like Ross and Marshall's. If you're not familiar with them they sell closeouts, overstocks and first runs at discounts. I've purchased Killer Loop and Carrera sunglasses from there. Both were about 20 bucks each and the Carrera's retail for 120 bucks. They were awesome but I promptly lost them.

I still have the Killer Loops. Not sure what they retail for but they have fantastic optics and I really enjoy them. They've lasted me for years. I also have a pair of Julbo sunglasses that I bought from Campmor.com for (I think it was) 40 bucks and those are really great glasses too.

Remember folks, if you are ever going to use these as shooting glasses, you really do want ones that are safety rated. Z87.1 is not only for strength, it means they meet optical clarity standards, as well.

Oakley and Gargoyle meet or exceed Z87.1 testing. That is a lot of what you are paying for when you buy them.

Smith does not. I contacted them to verify it. They refuse to accept the liability implied by saying they meet that standard. They meet the slightly lower Z80 standard.

If you buy $15.00 sunglasses off a table at a show, you have no way of knowing whether they meet the standard, even if they have a label saying they do. Sorry, but that is the way "knock-offs" work.

A good place to get cheap glasses is at Sierra Trading Post

Although I couldn't find them on their web page, their newest mailer had Oakleys in it.

I was at the Nike outlet last week and my wife and I each ended up buying a pair of Nike shades. Hers were 19.99 (retail for 69) and mine were 29.99 (retail for 75). They meet the Z87.1 standard according to the owner's manual. They also have great clarity IMO and they look good! Just a thought if you live near a Nike outlet.
