$100 Big 5 Night vision binocs
The recent event with my neighbors car almost being stolen has made me think about some of those ads I get from my local Big 5 for there $100 Night Vision Binoc's they usually have on sale.
Anyone have one? Are they any good? What do I look for? I'll also be camping this weekend and it would be fun to use it to scare the ???? out of some of my buddies.

Which are you talking about ?
Is it a 'starlite' scope (night vision/electronic) or binoculars with VERY LAGE
lenses (to gather more light / used on naval vessels - LONG AGO !!) If the former - good price but would suspect quality/resolution etc. If the latter - again good price IF you not going to be looking through them for hours one end. Let us know what you're considering.

OOPS
Meant 'LARGE LENSES' (on the end you don't look through - ocular ??)
Somebody refresh my memory on the term.

I'm taking about..
I'm talking about the Night vision/electronic ones. I happen to have an old Big 5 ad with me and the one on here is a "Famous Trails" Monocular.
2.5 x IR Illluminator, uses a 3-volt Litium Battery I'm not looking for any kind of Special Ops quality set. Just something that's not total junk that I can fool around with. Thanks! |

The lenses you don't look through are called the objective.

Nice toy, but not legal for sale in Kali. IR night vision equipment and laser sights have been banned by the Kaliban.

Why in the hell would NV be illegal in Kalifornia????? Gosh, it seems as though any thing "fun" is illegal. I will go ahead and kiss the groud here in WA for ya.
Anyhow, are you saying they are good? |

The really interesting thing about many night vision devices is that license plates (at least in Misery - assume other states do it too...) are painted with stuff that is HIGHLY reflective to the IR... Makes 'em VERY easy to read.

NV is illegal in Cali??? What possible "logic" could have been used to accomplish that absurdity?

Finally!
I knew that there was a Big 5 employee on here (or 2)!!!
Are they reasonably clear, meaning can you make out faces, or is it just a silluette(sp?) of someone? Sorry, I've never looked through night visions before. How far away can you see in IR? Or is it just as far as the 2x can produce? Lastly, have there been many returns on a certain brand? Which do you suggest of the models that Big 5 carries? I appreciate the "in-store" down low. |

Well, considering that I've never had them out of the store,Yes, clear as I can & distinguish a fellow employee from across the store(corporate store-larger than most-maybe 75/100').Never used IR 'cause it was never dark enough(lighted displays and such).
They are all about the same, but the FT700 (I think) is the best as far as the power.
