Rumor mongering -- new Ruger auto?

I hear tell elsewhere that there's a new centerfire autoloader coming out RSN from Ruger.

Anybody seen or heard anything?

Glock like is what I keep hearing.
I love my P89! But I would love to see a compact 9mm from Ruger.

I don't think I've ever read Ruger and compact in the same sentence before!

Would be great if they could produce a truly compact 9mm and maintain Ruger reliability and price point.

The last thing I want to see out of Ruger is another Glock clone. What are we up to, now? This will make five?

Glock
S&W Sigma
Springfield XD
S&W M&P
Kimber KPD (currently in birthing throes)
Kahr

I would put several HKs on the list, but HK actually started the "plastic pistol" thing with the VP70 and the P9S back in the late 70s/early 80s.

Ruger already has several polymer-frame models. Talking off the safety lever and concealing the hammer aren't going to enhance them.

Rumor has it that this a whole new design. And it is NOT a 1911 clone
Not just a DOA P95 with an internal hammer.

As to why? Why not?
It just took Ruger what, 15-20 years to see that the CCW market might be a good market to sell to.

actually, it piques your interest.

it'll be interesting to see any new guns. i don't understand people asking why like its a bad thing that gun company comes out with something new. if everyone thought that way, we'd all be sportin' out Model T's still.

You mean another HK clone. Everbody knows that Glocks are just HK VP-70 clones.

lee n. field,

No I have not.

Ruger is Ruger...
If you recall the P series, and how long this gun was "rumored" and the "hints" of the Military considering another pistol, this time in 9mm to be NATO compatible...
The P series was not ready for the trials so it was not even considered.

Ruger and Microsoft must use the same marketing folks.
For sure it is NOT the same as Apple.
Apple just keeps everything a secret, and then one day it is on the market.
Oh, and it works.

My feeling are - Ruger is using the buyers in Beta Marketing
They want the buyers to give the input of what to consider to start mfg-ing.

I work at a large-ish gun shop and just called my boss. He confirmed that something is indeed on the way from Ruger. We were offered by one of our distributors one set of four guns, which we purchased. The distributor informed us that we had to buy sight unseen. As in the thread linked by the OP my boss also verified that all we know is it's something totally new, we got one of the 500 sets of four, the set will ship some time before the end of the year, and Ruger is releasing no other details. Interesting marketing, and a good call on Ruger - I think - in using the internet message board rumor mill / back door buzz to hype their new piece. I'm looking forward to seeing this thing materialize.

We still have a long way to catch up to all the Colt 1911 clones. As far as I'm concerned, the more guns the better, even if it's a copycat.

A thin, lightweight, compact/sub compact would be nice. Ruger prices seem to be reasonable, and their firearms seem to be durable. I think it could be a perfect combo.

If they can make one that is a true ruger P-series, meaning external hammer, same action, etc. then I would totally get one. Probably two. One in 9, and one in .45. Ooh, a sub-compact ruger p90. I think I'm in love.

Hrm...I was actually thinking the other day that I would love something the size and shape of the P345 but in 9mm. The P95 is too different. I love the shape of the P345.
If you say it's completely different though...well, i'm excited to see.

I hope there won't be a magazine disconnect device that damages the gun if fired without a magazine in place, like the P345.

From what I understand all Ruger will say about the new gun is that it "looks like a Glock". Heard the four guns each deal to 500 dealers is supposed to happen October 11th. There are a couple of threads on this at RugerForum.com in the Autoloaders section. Everything I'm writing here is what I read there. They said this gun will retail somewhere between 475 & 550 dollars. Also this pistol is rumored to be designated SR-9.

<tacky mode>

Maybe Ruger is making a Owner's Manual that fires a 9mm, and will fit a real unique Conceal Carry gun role...

One just has to read all the Instructions off of the barrel of the thing that comes with it to learn how to care and use the darn book looking thing.

Based upon the dealer cost figures my boss has relayed to me I can confirm that $475 to $550 retail is the correct price range. Otherwise we're just waiting on the guns to show up so we can actually get a look at them. I'll be sure to post pics as soon as I'm able.

Same thing was told to me by a local shop. He sent his money off without even knowing what it was he was going to get. I think he said he paid for 3.
