Break Free CLP

With all this high speed lithium based lubricants, pastes, grease and oils, is there any reason not to use Break Free? Does the lithium based stuff do anything besides cost more? I'm talking practical differences not theoretical ones.

Break Free, not just for breakfast anymore.

IMHO, your gun will funtion fine and last near forever with proper maintenance and no other cleaner/lube than CLP.

My opinion only.

Other lubricants may last longer, stick better, be more slick, etc. But CLP will do the job.

That said, I mainly use G-96 cuz its cheaper where I shop, and seems to behave the same.

And I have been known to use Bore Shine or Shooters Choidce on occasion to make sure I am getting the copper fouling.

Break Free doesn't do double duty as an after-shave lotion as well as Hoppe's No. 9, but it's okay to use on guns.

After a while it seems to dry up.

If I do a reasonable clean & lube on an semiauto (pistol and/or AR), and go to range while they "appear dry", how well/long can I shoot before I should stop and lube up???

As the name implies, CLP is made up of three main components.

A highly volatile cleaner which will evaporate.

A protectant which also has lubricant properties which will not evaporate.

Teflon particles which provide the main lubrication properties--they also don't evaporate.

Assuming that you lubricated your gun properly, it's appearing dry is a good thing. Dry means that crud won't stick to the wet spots and act like an abrasive.

I used Break Free for a very long time. There are alot of alternatives out there & Break Free is one of the better ones.

I use BreakFree because I bought a quart of it. Also got a quart of Hoppes too. And a quart of Hoppes for blackpowder. Gee, no quart of milk in the reefer though.

I go through about a case of Butch's Bore Shine a year.

In the big bottles.

Breakfree is good stuff...Powder Blast for deep cleaning and fresh citrus aroma

I use BreakFree on everything, and Hoppe's copper solvent (I forget the specific name) on my bores every 2 or 3 cleanings.

Breakfree's good stuff; I've come to associate its smell with "guns" er, at least "clean guns"

Used to use Rem-Oil, but now all I use is BreakFree.

MPro-7 for cleaning, Break-Free CLP for lubing and coating parts, Brownell's Action Lube Plus for greasing things that need grease. Except in the field then it's Break-Free CLP only for convience.
MPro-7 strips oils and grease from surfaces and must be replaced.
I must confess I have been testing Militec-1 for a few weeks. No opinion yet.
