'nother 60
That one I asked about a few days ago went by the wayside but I picked one up today thanks to posting here. It's really nice and has seen far more drawer time than anything. This one has found a home.
Model 60 no dash Serial R 3008xx 2" (1 7/8") round Thanks Shade

I'm looking for date of manufacture for a 5" pre-model 10 .38. On the frame and crane is E 44528. Under the barrel is c 135304. Thanks in advance!

Sometime between Jan 84 and Nov 84 hangemhigh87 late 41 This one need to be checked a bit and possibly lettered. It might be a late shipment of a Bekeart Kit gun. If it was shipped to Bekeart it would add 10%, it show about 80% and would be somewhere around $500 to 800 BlackJack 1994 Racinbob Late 1981 wheelsandlevers 1958 and measure the barrel from the front of the cylinder. Black Majik 1963 agrippakc 1964 wnycollector some where between 1948 and 51 C1 – C223998 This would be a good one to letter also

Thank you for offering to do this! Here's an M&P snubby I'd really appreciate a DOB on:
a) caliber: .38 Special b) bbl length (from cylinder to muzzle): 2" c) grips shape (round or square): square d) number of shots/cylinder bores: 6 e) type of sights: fixed f) serial number, and if there is a letter in front of or anywhere near the s/n on the bottom of the grip: C 90645 (the "C" is the letter in front) g) Model number if it is under the crane: 2 numbers under the crane. On top: 1 (superscript) 3. On bottom: 26557. Quote:

Brian,
Thank you! Turns out this one is a little older than I'd suspected. (Still shoots very nicely, though.) |

I just picked this up:
Model 49, blued, shrouded hammer 38 Special 1 7/8" bbl, pinned Round Butt 5 round cylinder fixed sights (groove rear, ramp front) Serial Number 4958xx under the crane, it simply says Mod-49 on the crane, the numbers 29547 are stamped, and there's a numeral 6 under that. |

See my previous post on this
The sights on mine are not as fine ( narrow) as on a very early 1st model M&P. It does have a C then the serial. The guy I bought it from had it listed as a 1948 M&P. There are no patent dates or anything else. Hammer appears to be a service hammer, barrel is marked .38 S&W Special Ctg. |

I inherited this revolver from my grandfather. I have no interest in ever selling it, rather I'd like to know when it was made so I can narrow down where he got it. I know it's a .38 S&W model 33 and manufactured between 1958-1974. What I'd like to be able to do is narrow down what year it was made by the model number if at all possible.
I think the pictures should provide enough information, if any other info is needed please feel free to email or PM me. Thanks in advance, Jered |

date info on older S&W
I have a 4" 38 that was my dad's NYPD service pistol. Since he started in the 50's, I am assuming it dates from that time frame. Anything more specific is greatly appreciated.
The serial number on the bottom of the butt is C132XXX There is a 5 digit number inside the crane, but no model number There is another serial number on the backstrap, (I'm assuming it is a NYPD serial/issue number) Thanks again! |
