CajunBass: 1978-79. Model 19s aren't so common in nickel.

Thanks Shade. 'preciate it. No pictures yet, but someday, maybe.

My wife thought the S/N was kinda neat.

Pa.Bill: It definitely is an outstanding firearm. That serial # puts it 1978-79.

Fergy35: My guess is early-mid 1998.

KarenTOC: Your Model 10-5 was likely built in 1974-75.

Check www.proofhouse.com for Colt serial # information. The site does not contain serial #s for many newer models, but it is one of the best free resources.

What a great thread. I've got two:

.38 special
1 7/8"
round butt
5 shot
fixed sights
serial number 5101xx
model 36

I inherited the above model 36 from my grandfather. It came with a blue S&W box and grips with the diamond. I think the box is close to the same period with the wrapper, but the S/N doesn't match the gun. I'd guess 1950's or 1960's, but don't really know.

.38 special
1 7/8"
round butt
5 shot
serial number R762xx
model 60

I've had this one close to 20 years and I bought it used. It didn't come with a box.

Thanks!

-Buzz-: Your 36 was produced somewhere in the mid-60s. To get anymore specific you would need a S&W letter. Your Model 60 was produced somewhere between 1970-73.

Awesome. Thanks for the info.

That model 60 is older than I thought. Still... I have more carry time with it than any other gun I own.

.38 special

Round grips
5 shot
Fixed sights
591892 no alpha prefix
Model 36 (may be 36-2)

Thanks

TurboJeff: Your model 36 is not likely a 36-2. Serial number 591892 with no prefix would put its production in the mid-late 60s. The 36-2 designation as not used until 1988.

Sorry guys, it's finals week, so I'm having a hard time keeping up with everything that needs to be done. I made law review though, so that's one good thing to come of this week.

jwood: A Victory model would have been manufactured between 1942-45.

cwauth1: Gonna need more information to date this one. Number of rounds and other pertinent information from the first post will help immensely.

bflobill 69: My guess is that your gun is a .38 Military & Police 1st Model, or the Model of 1899 Army-Navy. A 4-digit serial # puts production sometime between 1899 and 1902.

Hi Annie-O. I don't believe the number you provided is the serial number. The 640 in .38 special was produced 1989-1996, and during that period, the first three characters of the serial number would be letters. To find the serial number you will need to take the grips off of the gun and look on the butt of the gun. Let us know what you find.

Annie-O: BFV serial puts DOB somewhere around late 1990.
