Whats your favorite factory 45 acp ammo?

What do you like for your cheapo plinking ammo and what do you buy for your "Defense" loads?My favorite plinkers are UMC 230 gr. hardball. I usually have Federal Hi-Shock JHP for my Home defence and CCW loads.

It's been a while since I've run .45, but I used to like the S&B the best for plinking, and either Fed 230 gr Hydrashocks or Cor-bon 230 gr +P JHPs for defense. Both were quite accurate, and seemed like they'd do the trick.

I use HSM Montana Gold for practice (About $180 per thousand) and Win Ranger 230gr JHP+p for carrying.

I buy case quantitiies of either Fiocchi or Federal; it's cheaper by the case particularly over the internet where shipping is involved. I haven't tried S&B but it's got a good rep. I have shot Speer, it's okay.

For defense I use Black Hills 230 gr JHP (Gold Dot).

Home rolled for practice.185 gr at 850.Carry load is 200 gr corbon.These corbon are the best round for night work I have seen.Very low flash so night vision is retained.

WinClean 185 or 230gr.

(For me, it is accurate, clean and only costs about a $1.50 box more)

Practice: whatever is inexpensive in 230 grains. (Well, I like the PMI 220 grain stuff too.)

Defense: 230 grain Remington Golden Sabers and for in the house work, 47 grain Thunderzaps.

The Thuderzaps were sold by Second Chance Body Armor and are no longer on the market, but they were factory.

First, let me say that I don't reload and have no interest in reloading. I would rather not have to pay for brass that I am not going to use again. So, I like to shoot CCI Blazer 230 gr FMJ ball.

There are several benefits to Blazer. It is very inexpensive, only costing more than steel case and lacquer-covered Wolf and very frightening, quality challenged American Ammo out of Florida. The cost for me from www.natchezss.com including shipping comes out to just under $9 a box.

Blazer has functioned just fine in my 1911s.

In side by side tests using the same gun, I have found that Blazer is a very good training substitute for my carry ammo that is Federal Hydrashok 230 gr. Premium ammo. The felt recoil between the two types is very comparable. In low light, they produce comparable flash. So, I get the benefit of practicing and training with ammo that closely matches what I carry in these aspects.

By the way, I get Federal Hydrashok 230 gr. Premium in 50 round boxes for $20 a box (plus shipping or as in my case, plus sales tax). Note that the price is for 50 round boxes and not 20 round boxes that are often sold for as much as $15 a box.

For plinking I usually use S&B, unless I find something cheaper. I will not use CCI or Wolf.

For defense I use Triton .45 Super.

For plinking/having fun, whatever is the cheapest at that moment. This is usually 'Wally-World' Winchester white box,UMC or Sellier & Bellot (bullet weights vary).

And for defensive purposes,usually Winchester Ranger 230 gr. JHP's,but I've used several other brands, including Federal,PMC,Fiocchi,and Cor-bon to name a few..

I think it's time to try Pro Load.

For plinking I use reloads.

For IDPA Federal 230 Gr. FMJ.

For carry, it is Winchester Silver Tip HP, 230 Gr..

Self Defense - Federal 230gr Hydra-Shok. For friends with .45's that may be pickier about feeding, I usually recommend Winchester Silvertips, as they seem to feed well in any 1911.

Practice/plinking: Whatever's cheap and handy. Usually that means Georgia Arms, CCI Lawman, or American Eagle.

Defense: I'm pretty undogmatic on this. It's usually Gold Dots or Golden Sabers (either std. velocity 230gr or +P 185/200). I have a soft spot in my heart for the 230gr HydraShok, though. It was the first "magic bullet".

Defense, I use the Hydra Shoks. For plinking, I usually use my reloads or if I run across a good sale on Federals, PMC I'll use those.

and I prefer the Hydra-Shok in 230gr. most of my guns shoot both kinds of ammo pretty mush to POA so I like that combination. of training and defense round.

Practice- S&B 230 ball....it hard to beat the performance and the cost!

Carry ammo- the old standby is 230 Hydra-Shok's, but lately I've been playing with Hornady 230 XTP +p's, and I've been very impressed. I may be making a change

Blazer, S&B, PMC all seem to work well for me in my 1911's. My HK does not like the Blazer ammo. It shoots it reliably, but the accyracy suffers. The other 2 are spot on, though.
