This thread is 5 years old. You surely understand that the whole ordeal with Marlin lever guns is covered here. And there are enough Glock haters to start their own board. Remington has changed a great deal in that 5 period along with Marlin. For a while you couldn't get a decent Marlin. Now they make decent guns again in the Kentucky plant.
I thought Marlin problems were ongoing. Can "decent" also be thought of as pretty good?

I don't like Glock but at the same time I think they're good.

And there are those that would never buy a Chinese weapon even though they certainly make some fine firearms even if they did copy the designs.
I wish I could pick up a new Norinco 1911.

I have a Norinco SKS that will put that to rest any time anyone wants to argue the point.
I wish I could pick up one of those for prices they used to go for.

Quote:
There is no consensus in this thread that makes any sense. I've seen half a dozen people say they would never buy a 1911.
That's because a huge number of them are lacking quality due to the manufacturers' more than usual motivation to make money with that design.

380 Anything. I shot it for a while and lost interest. Gave my dad and sister 500 rounds after I disposed of the Kahr. Ballistics just aren't up to my standards for defense purposes even with +p. Done with 380 for good.

Penetration with ball ammo is sufficient and there's some tiny designs in that caliber for conceal-ability.

Biden recommended a shotgun. I'd buy one of those, even a double barrel.

Bryco, Jennings (literally saw one explode in someones hand once,) Lorcin (though I did have a very old full-sized .380 of theirs once that not only functioned well with a different magazine but was pretty accurate,) Cobra, Sundance, Jimenez, Special Weapons, Vulcan, Hesse, Master Piece Arms, Rohm, Phoenix, a lot of stuff Century Arms makes I've purchased has been complete garbage, but I still give them a shot sometimes. I had a Derringer once, they're pretty useless less you spend more time than anyone would ever want to training with one or want to get absolute point blank. Would never waste money on one again, that's for sure.

I've had no problems with Hi Point pistols despite what people say, their carbines are another story. Never had one of the carbines that would function past 200 rounds, even when completely taken down, cleaned, lubed, and reassembled. But to be fair I was too apathetic to take advantage of their amazing warranty service back then.

He didn't recommend any specific one.

And knowing him he would want child locks and the 'bracelet' with them to.

Jennings, Hi point, Diamondback, Citadel.

Cutman: I noticed that S&W was not on your list. Are they still OK?

I am suprised no one mentioned ARMATIX, for sure a NEVER BUY gun.

That said everything else is fair game, especially when the zombies come

Some opinions:

I enjoy the Glocks I own (17, 19, 20, 21), that said I don't think I will be spending my hard earned money on their .45 GAP models.
I probably wouldn't buy their dedicated .40 S&W and .357 SIG models either because a conversion barrel is cheaper.

SIG: I like my P220, P238 and P225, but I don't think I would buy a P232, P250, or SP2022
Also, not happy with the prices SIG wants for their magazines.(any model)

I try to judge based on experience and not others opinions but I would be hard pressed to spend money on a Hi-Point after handling one (didn't shoot it)

I don't much like super micro compacts especially as the caliber moves up.

I don't like models where the barrel is attached to the frame (PPK -slide bite, H&K P7, Bersa 380)

I don't think I would buy a Taurus because they seem to just clone other companies and products, I'd rather just get the original (example: Beretta 92FS)

Wouldn't buy any of the XD line, don't like the grip safety and bulky slide (feels unbalanced)

Wouldn't buy an M&P, although nothing against it, just don't want one.

XD and M&P didn't exist when I bought my first Glock

Not into H&K because of pricepoint, design, and attitude (H&K fanboys have to be worse than Glock fanboys no?)

Don't think I would buy a Kahr based on reputation, price and overall feel.

Nothing Kel-Tec makes appeals to me.

Don't think I'd buy a Mossberg either especially the chainsaw grip, Barrett Muzzle break, bayonet fitted, rails up the ying-yang shotguns.

Wouldn't want obscure/obsolete hard to find calibers (pistol or rifle)

My criteria: functionality/reliability, ergonomics/balance, design/aesthetics, Customer service, price in that order.

I am left handed so I have that against me

Well, I kind of buy everything to try, and have liked most of them for some reason or other.
-I have a 9mm Hi-point carbine. Shot it enough to wear out the firing pin channel. Sent it back, they fixed it and sent me a mess of new magazines as an apology.
-Love my Taurus 66, no issues ever.
-Have a Chinese SKS, no complaints
-I don't like shooting the LCP, but I end up carrying it a lot.

I used to say I wouldn't buy an AR - just didn't see the point. I saw a good deal, and I got one.

I used to say I wouldn't get a striker pistol, then I saw a good deal...

With my history I still think I am safe saying I would never buy a 16"/50cal gun. No good way to get it to a proper range.

Kahr P380 - it's crazy how much break in is required. Customer service was not great.

The worst is Rossi from my experience. Hands down, their customer service wins the award for ABSOLUTE USELESSNESS. Long story about a model 92. The best part of the odyssey was good folks on THR who recommended Steve guns. I slicked it up myself!

Beretta Nano. Have one. Wish I didn't. Too dang finicky
about what ammo it'll shoot. So far, only thing it "seems"
to like is Speer Gold Dot 147gr. Hate the dang thing. It's
on my sell or trade list but since I have a tendency to be
honest, I can't get rid of it. Only Beretta I've ever owned
and I will never own another.
Dano

BTW: It's butt ugly too and life is to short to own an ugly gun.

sorry to hear that, I love mine. eats steel cased, federal, critical defense, anything I put in it. and real accurate for a subcompact. my only complaint is that it's just too big for pocket carry, I'm trying to find someone to trade me a j frame or lcr for mine

I wish I could trust mine. At least then I could get rid of it.
As it stands now, it's just an ugly paperweight.
Right now, I'd trade it for just about anything.

CZ handguns. I think they're way overrated by cultists, and hate the ergonomics of the shallow slide with the large controls on the frame. The only way I'd take one for free is to immediately trade it.

Any (non-revolver) pistol without an external safety. Not judging anyone else, just have zero interest in them.

A Taurus revolver with a refrigerator white finish and puke green grips.

It looks like Rainbow Bright's side arm.

Maybe this one

At the right price I would buy absolutely any gun presented to me. Glocks, HiPoints, Pink Charter Arms Pistols, Bolt Action Pistols (actually the Remington XP-100 is awesome) you name it I'll buy it. Now I won't buy a High Point at full retail I'll pay maybe $30 for a High Point. If only to use an an example to a newbie.

I would not buy a gun used in a suicide, nor would I buy the backwards gun

sorry I didn't realize I was resurecting this feel free to delete this post

I think it's a very interesting thread that many members are obviously enjoying, and that is the point.

My never buys: any handgun in ..25 or .32 caliber.
