Ruger recalled all of the old 3 screw single action revolver models so they could refit them with the transfer bar safety.

If you have a new model or a converted 3 screw there's no need to worry.

A lot of people prefered to have theirs stay the way they were made and know to only carry five chambers loaded.

Everything on that list is not a recall.

If it has a big red R to the left it is a Recall
If it has a big red W to the left it is only a Warning.

ANd don't forget to check the dates. Some things on that list are from the 1970s. That doesn't mean you still don't need to check your older guns to make sure they were updated. But if the recall was in 1978 and the S&W Model 19 you have was made in 1985 you don't have to worry.

While you are there see and use the Virtual Comparison Microscope (VCM) to match unknown bullet to a standard. Great program for forensics.

Concerning this list - - -

First of all, thanks to Preacherman, who discovered this list and originated the thread. Gunsmithing & Repairs is indeed a good place to float the thread.

HOWEVER, it is not truly a topic for discussion, but rather for information. Therefore, I'm going to prune out all comments which do not add anything substantitive, and close the thread to further entries. If you have some item which clearly NEEDS to be included, please PM or e-mail a forum moderator and we'll see about including it.

Thanks, everyone - - -

S&W 1911 recall

Thanks to Kodiak AK for the PM noting the following - -

http://safety.smith-wesson.com/pages/1911_recall

alduro sends - - -
Quote:
Just a sample of their notice:

that the firing pin safety plunger of the SW1911 pistol can become disabled, creating a situation where the slide may jam and render the firearm inoperable. This only pertains to certain Smith & Wesson Model SW1911 pistols bearing serial numbers JRD0000 to JRD4750.
There’s a discussion about the matter here:

Beretta 92F slide crack warning

I received this warning via the API List, originating from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Office:
Quote:
THE BERETTA PISTOL IS A SAFE, RELIABLE FIREARM THAT OUR DEPARTMENT HAS USED FOR ALMOST TWO DECADES. IN MEMORY, ONLY ONE PISTOL THAT HAD FIRED WELL OVER 100,000 ROUNDS AND INSPECTED BY WEAPONS TRAINING STAFF, SUSTAINED HAIRLINE CRACKS IN THE SLIDE.

IN THE PAST WEEK, DURING FIREARMS TRAINING, SEVERAL BERETTA 9MM PISTOLS DEVELOPED PISTOL SLIDE CRACKS WHERE THE SLIDE BROKE CAUSING THE WEAPON TO MALFUNCTION. IMPROPER LUBRICATION OR INFREQUENT CLEANING PROCEDURES MAY BE RELATED TO SLIDE CRACKS ON BERETTA PISTOLS. A VERY HIGH NUMBER OF ROUNDS FIRED BY A PISTOL IS ALSO BELIEVED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE SLIDE CRACKS.

THE WEAPONS TRAINING STAFF RECOMMENDS THAT ALL BERETTA 92F SERIES PISTOLS BE INSPECTED IMMEDIATELY FOR SLIDE CRACKS.

EXAMINE THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BERETTA SLIDE BETWEEN THE LABELS STAMPING "MADE IN USA" AND THE OVAL STAMPING CONTAINING LETTERS "PB".

EXAMINE THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BERETTA SLIDE IN THE VICINITY OF LABEL STAMPING "MOD".

THE HAIRLINE CRACK MAY APPEAR TO BE A RELATIVELY STRAIGHT SHALLOW SCRATCH.
Beretta 92F owners, take note...

Modifications to Recall page

Member wolf_from_wv sent along this note:

Looks like they restructured the Recall page and now require a log in... But, it says it's a free login...
Many thanks, wolf.
